Harold “Spank” Reals, Sr., 89 of Jamesville, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at his winter home in Florida. Born in Jamesville, he was the son of Paul and Bertha (Streiff) Reals.
A graduate of Jamesville-Dewitt High School, Spank served the Army in Germany and retired after 30+ years as a Lab Technician at Bristol-Myers (He said he “made big pills into little pills”). As a kid, Spank enjoyed fishing with his brother Russell and friend, David Freeman.
As an adult he loved fly fishing, hunting and camping with his family in the Adirondacks. In 1973, Spank drove his wife and young family across the country for a 3-week journey that included stops at Yellowstone National Park, Reno, Nevada and many other landmarks in a small truck camper. Spank served as an Officer for many years in the Jamesville Sportsmen’s Club and acted as the “go to guy” for the food tent at the Jamesville Field Days and the county Balloon Festival. Spank was a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan, taking the family on trips to see the “Big Red Machine.” Spank loved playing the ponies at Vernon Downs ($1 trifecta key was his favorite), SU football and basketball, and the Miami Dolphins. His lifelong passion was “farming,” although he was famous for breaking the John Deere, and he enjoyed helping Jason at the Central NY Regional Market. Spank enjoyed traveling throughout the USA with his family. In 2003, he was among the SU faithful to witness the ‘Cuse’s National Championship and in 2004 enjoyed a month-long journey throughout Europe. His grandchildren have fond memories of sledding with him in Missouri at Christmas time, and riding around the yard in a wagon behind his tractor. Spank’s friends will remember him as the guy that could tell good stories. He is well known for responding to “what do you want?” with “two tens for a five” (dollar bill).
He is predeceased by his parents, his beloved daughter, Karen Reals Reahr, his brothers, Robert and Russell and his sister, Jeanette “Peggy” Chapman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Annette (Godfrey) Reals, and his daughter Kim and son-in-law Mitch Seager, son Harold, Jr., and daughter, Kelly Reals; his beloved grandchildren, Colin Reahr, Ethan Reahr and Dylan Reahr; and his sister, Nancy (Reals) Freeman. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
To honor of his wishes no services are planned.
