John Owen Coy

Jack was born on July 25, 1937, in Canton, Ohio, to Owen and Gertrude (Janson) Coy.

Jack attended Lorain High School where he was an avid athlete. He participated on the golf, basketball and football teams. He was the captain of the 1955 football team.

In the early 70’s, Jack entered the real estate business and became a successful broker where he later established Coy Realty in Greely, Colorado. He mentored future realtors throughout his career. In the 80’s, he moved to Panama City Beach, Florida, where he continued his career in real estate and property management. Retirement brought him to The Villages, Florida, in 2006 where he enjoyed his passion for golf.

Jack had a talent for helping and caring for others. His passion led him to assist lower socioeconomic families to reach their goals of owning a house that would become their home. An advocate for literacy, he enjoyed teaching adults and immigrants the English language. He often said, ”learning to read leads to success.”

Jack had a blended family that gave him great pleasure along his journey in life. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ross Coy of The Villages, Florida; his sons, John Michael Coy and wife Julie of Buffalo, New York, William Owen Coy and wife Haiping of Nashville, Tennessee, John Stockdale and wife Annie of Tampa, Florida, Mark Stockdale of Panama City Beach, Florida; his girls, Connie Elizabeth Coy-Weeks of Orlando, Florida, Teresa Coy-McLean and husband Mack of Gainesville, Florida, Melanie Stockdale of St Cloud, Florida. He was blessed with ten grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Gertrude Coy, his sister Mary Lou Ziemba and brother Timothy Coy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at New Covenant United Methodist Church in The Chapel, The Villages, Florida at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 27, 2017.
