Katherine C. Cartwright Rives

Katherine Cartwright Rives age 79 died August 8, 2011 from severe complications of COPD. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Milton Rives; brother, Robert Day Cartwright (Lynne) and oldest grandson, Jack Milton Rives.

She is survived by son, Jeff Rives (Angela) of Winchester, VA; daughter, Beth Rives Zelms (Derek) of Little Torch Key, FL; son: Robbie Rives of Long Beach, CA and nephew Steve Cartwright. Surviving grandchildren are Sara Gerringer, Andy Gerringer, Jeff Rives and Rhett Rives as well as a great-grandson, Austin Rives.

Katie enjoyed many years as an Army wife. In Hampton, she happily worked for the public school system as a principal's secretary for over 25 years. Upon retirement, she and Jerry moved to Kill Devil Hills, NC, but finally settled in Plant City, FL. Despite losing her husband at an early age, Katie continued to be active in traveling and playing bridge. She was the ultimate hostess and a jazzy dresser with her hats and gold accessories. Katie will be remembered for her love of family and matter-of-fact demeanor.

Her children are especially grateful to the caregivers of the HP Hospice in Dade City, FL, who assisted Katie during her final days. Donations are welcomed in Katie's memory. (37445 Clinton Ave, Dade City, FL 33525).

A joint inurnment of Katie and Jerry Rives is planned in the future at Arlington National Cemetery.
