Hola Adolfo, ya ha pasado un año. Te seguimos recordando con cariño. Mi deseo es en algún momento poder ir a tu Canadá querida y aunque ya no estés físicamente para poder darte un abrazo, sí lo verás en la distancia desde donde estés.

Hello Adolfo, a year has already passed. We continue to remember you fondly. My wish is at some point to be able to go to your beloved Canada and even if you are no longer physically there to be able to give you a hug, you will see it in the distance from wherever you are.

Adolfo played soccer with the Brothers in Pointe-Claire and we all remember his competitive side coupled with a great sense of humor and camaraderie. We shared many "cervezas" and good stories after our games. I was shocked to hear the news of his passing.

I feel honoured to have known Adolfo since my childhood.

He was, as my sister Ani and I always said:  The son our Dad never had.

Adolfo played hockey as a young “lad” and our Dad would swing by  “l’Aréna Père-Marquette” to watch him play. 

As we entered our teenage years, we would cross paths with Adolfo at Spanish social gatherings.
But it was not until University that Ani and I began spending more time with Adolfo.
Our parents were always happy and relieved when we mentioned that Adolfo would drive us home or Adolfo was accompanying us.

He was to keep an eye on the Toribio sisters, which he always did.

Adolfo or tiooooooo    as I used to call him back in 2010...he was at RBC and I at Terra Futuros in Brazil .We became good pals right off the bat...visited him in Ny and Montreal ..chatted thousands of hours about business in  latam and his love for  family and children and the crazy temperatures  in Canada

Adolfo went out of his way in my early days working with the RBC Futures team to provide me much needed background.  His positive outlook for the future was infectious and we stayed industry friends over the years.

I met Adolfo over 20 years ago now, in Madrid.  A wonderful and kind man, he will always be part of my enduring memories of those carefree and exciting times in Spain.  While Raquel and I, along with our classmates, battled through our MBAs he was always there - patient, helpful, funny, charming and generous.  So many good times and I loved hanging out with the Sastron-Navarrete gang - Adolfo, Raq and Elena, it was like having a home from home.  Adolfo was also actually a bit of a sage to us - he seemed older and much wiser, perhaps because he had already seen the sharp end of business at the Seville Expo, and so was very tolerant of our endless college dramas and deadlines....thank you for that dear A.

My one regret is that I never made it to Montreal to visit him, Raq and the family, and I haven't yet got to know Amaya and Inaki - however I know Adolfo will always burn brightly within both their souls, and through them a part of him will still be with us.  His  passing is a loss to us all - but an inspiration of how to lead the best life. May you be at peace Adolfo, with the knowledge that you were truly loved by all those whose lives you touched.  

As everyone , I am still in some sort of daze of all this….the last few years prior to all this covid ….I always remembered around my birthday in January that we would have a birthday dinner out to celebrate Adolfo’s, Aurelio,s and mine…..Adolfo was always soft spoken and really just  a genuine nice person never a negative thing to say about anyone,  last time I saw him was at our mutual friends Carols birthday party…he spoke to me about his kids and how he was just trying to make sure they move thé right path through life…all I can say is if they listened to surely thé wise words he shared with them , they will be ok

I remember fondly the Christmas times for children where I met your lovely partner and the kids. Back then we were working in the same office and there we also shared precious moments. 

Hola Adolfo, estés donde estés, soy tu amigo de Mataró, de Barcelona, de Quinzano, .... . Estoy muy bloqueado con esta situación, nunca se espera algo así. Es cierto que hacía mucho que no sabía de ti, perdimos el contacto. Con Elena y tus padres nos habíamos visto en alguna ocasión por Quinzano, pero también ya hace años. De todas formas siempre te recuerdo y te recordaré. Siempre en casa les decía a mi mujer (Asun) y a mis hijos (Marco y Lorién): ¡Un año iremos a conocer Canadá, tenemos unos amigos allí....!. Todavía guardo la camiseta de hockey de Canadá y la equipación de los Lakers de tu estancia en Mataró ya hace muchos años. Toda mi familia (mi padre Pepe, mi madre MªÁngel, mi mujer y mis hijos os mandamos un abrazo a todos, a Raquel, a Adolfo, a MªLuisa, a Elena, y a tus hijos. Y también para tu familia política y para todos tus más allegados. Descansa en paz Adolfo. Hasta siempre. 

Dear Adolfo, now that you have suddenly and incomprehensibly left us, after reading the innumerable messages from your friends honoring your memory, I realize that magnificent boy I knew forged an admirable personality, becoming an endearing and widely loved person, having in a permanent good humor and a sweet smile two of your main weapons of conquest for those who knew you. Now more than ever I feel proud and fortunate to have been part of your friends, what makes that fortune turn into misfortune and love into pain. 
All the strength and love for Raquel, Amaya, Iñaqui, Elena and your parents Adolfo and Maria Luisa, we will all miss this fabulous man.


One of the most important moments of my life was when on August 1, 1982 I had just arrived in Montreal and fate wanted that we could meet, without knowing each other at all, your wonderful family offered me their home, all of you opening the door of your heart. That day I was an extremely lucky person, and you Adolfo, who was 15 years old at the time, you were my first friend in Canada.
 I was lucky to live with the best hosts in the world, whom I still consider my family today, the deep feelings that were born then, survive today and always will. Adolfo, you took care of being my guide and my teacher in my beginnings of that new country, you taught me many things with your genuine and I learned that your frankness, generosity, nobility and so many other qualities that already then your personality gave off, they were precious values ​​that you adopted naturally, always illuminated also with your sincere and spontaneous smile.
I have infinite memories, among the best when we played and enjoyed ourselves in a indoor footbal team and your father took us to play every game on Sundays, you were also a good ice hockey player and you tried to teach me how to skate, but my clumsiness for that sport only allowed me little more than to stay on my feet. I also remember some getaways to Jarry Park or Mont Royal Park in winter, to enjoy the snow, Friday visits to the Spanish Club of Quebec or the traditional excursions when maple syrup was produced and together with your family we were going to eat in a traditional restaurant in the Quebec countryside, enjoying those sticks dipped in syrup that we then introduced in the snow turning them into natural ice cream. So many memories and so beautiful...
I will never stop remembering you, I will do it with that natural smile that illuminated you, my dear soul brother. 
I join the immense pain of all your family, I still don't understand why damn injustice destiny always snatches the lives of the best firts

I am deeply saddened by your passing. We may not have seen each other often, usually at one of Carol and Rocco's parties, but every time I saw you I enjoyed your company. You always struck me as a smart and decent man. Softspoken and humble. A good family man.                                                                                                                                                          I watched your video tribute. It was incredibly touching. I was moved to tears. You are loved more than you will ever know. You will be eternally missed by those you left behind. May you rest in peace my friend. 
And to dear Raquel, Amaya, Inaki, family and many friends. How I wish I had some words that can bring you some comfort in this incredibly tragic moment. I can only offer you my deepest condolences. Dear Adolfo, 
You have left so many of us broken-hearted. It will never make sense.
You must be so proud of the strength Raquel, Amaya, Elena & Inaki found yesterday as they delivered such beautiful messages about you.
You knew how to make everyone feel important, respected and comfortable. You listened to people and you heard them. I will miss hearing you always say "I see", which signaled that you had heard what was shared with you.  We will miss your indecipherable text messages which we refer to as "Adolfo Speak" as we passed the phone around hoping one of us could understand what you were trying to type.
We laughed our faces off A LOT! But after 14 years, we could all also sit in silence and be comfortable on the beach, in the backyard and in the living room. 
We shared more than a few drinks, dinners, vacations, soccer moments, ideas regarding the kids, schools, sports and of course, teasing Raquel. 
You were a family man beyond family men - You knew how to calm a storm and how to meet everyone's needs. You loved Amaya, Inaki & Raqui and the whole family, immensely. There was nothing more important.
How life just changed so drastically, so quickly. Thank Goodness we had been together just hours before, for one last dinner, one last glass of wine and for you & Pete, one last whisky and ping pong match - Which you won...
We will miss you Adolfo. You were so good. We all got your family, they are not alone. You created beautiful relationships and they will be here forever. Peter, Laurie, Holly, MaKye & Skyla

Today I said farewell to my friend with whom we have shared so many great experiences. While life got in the way in recent years, I am blessed to have the memories of Adolfo in my life.

Our friendship blossomed from the early days of playing Hockey in his basement, to 6 am pick up hockey, to sharing experiences in Lisbon and Sevilla, to most recently building memories with our respective families.

Adolfo cherished his family and friends. He was full of joy and loved to have a good time. Through Adolfo, I became familiar with Churros and Chocolate, exposed to the passion for Spanish soccer, U2 and someone named Brian Ferry. 

It was a beautiful ceremony today and witnessing how proud Raquel, Amaya and Inaki were of Adolfo – the husband, father, son brother and friend. In turn, I know Adolfo is smiling with pride at his wife and his two beautiful children.

Rest in peace my friend. As the song goes, we won’t forget about you.

La première fois qu’on s’est rencontré c’était au travail chez RBC Marchés des Capitaux. Quelle belle équipe on avait dans le département.  Adolfo toujours très fier de sa nationalité me taquinait puisque le Chili faisait partie des conquêtes espagnoles en Amérique du Sud.  Je lui disait qu’on avait mis dehors le conquistador à coup de pieds!!!  Mais, cela ne s’arrêtais pas là.  Pour le « Mundial » de football, je gageais toujours contre l’équipe espagnole (et Adolfo évidemment!) et je ne pourrais jamais oublier la raclée que j’ai eu lors que l’Espagne a gagné la coupe en 2010.  Ils ont gagné six parties consécutives. Ouch!  
Repose en paix Adolfo.  Mes condoléances les plus sincères à la famille.        


Two weeks have now passed and we are still in disbelief.  Not a day has gone by without us thinking about Adolfo's wonderful smile, the great times we shared together and how we wished that we had had the chance to get to know him better.  I found an old email regarding a Loyola dance from a few years ago were I was describing Raquel and Adolfo to people who did not know them, "I am so happy they joined our table, they are always lots of fun. "  I believe that sums up how we felt about Adolfo, we are ALWAYS happy to see him and we ALWAYS had a good time together.  Adolfo was the epitome of the family man, his love and dedication for Raquel, Amaya and Iñaki were obvious.  Our deepest condolences to the entire family.  Adolfo will be greatly missed.  

Adolfo was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a calm and soft-spoken person  with a unique kindness and witty sense of humour. He will be remembered for his impeccable fashion sense,  (he redefined the preppy polo shirt and pullover ensemble), his trademark smile, and his love for everything Spanish. He leaves a huge void in the hearts of all those who were lucky to have known him.  RIP, Adolfo. You are so deeply missed. 😢

Adolfo Sastron was great colleague and friend.  I had the pleasure of working alongside Adolfo everyday the last couple of years. Whenever I was faced with various difficulties, he had a way of helping and guiding me to overcome any obstacles I had faced. We shared many laughs together and it was always a pleasure working with him on various assignments. He will surely be missed, although rest assured he will always be remembered. I had heard of a man named “Adolfo Sastron” that worked in the financial sector. His name always came up, whether directly in conversation or indirectly when I would see it pop up in emails I was involved in. I often asked myself “who is this man with such a uniquely intriguing name??”. Then, many years later, I finally got the answer, as he and I began working together on the same team, and I can truly and honestly say, the uniqueness of the name matched the uniqueness of this man. Sure, Adolfo was an exceptional colleague, always so professional, knowledgeable and courteous, but to me, what stood out the most was his candor, genuineness, brutal honesty and infectious smile and laughter. We sat next to each other in the office, and every now and then, I would hear him speaking to someone in the way Adolfo does - with quick witted banter and the frequent “Adolfo-isms” thrown in to the mix. Those always made me smile, and will always continue to do so…
Adolfo - you were somewhat of a work mentor to me, having joined the team a few years ago and needing to “learn the ropes”, you were always there when I needed your input, or even simply for a quick chat. You taught me a lot, and more so, you were a great colleague and friend. I will forever be grateful for having met you. Rest In Peace, amigo.
To Raquel, Amaya & Iñaki and all of the Sastron/Navarrete families, my sincerest and heartfelt condolences to you all. I hope you find comfort in the knowledge that Adolfo’s spirit will continue to live on in many of us. May his memory be eternal!

No existen palabras para expresar cuanto siento el fallecimiento de vuestro querido Adolfo. Por razones que nunca comprenderemos, Adolfo se fue de nuestras vidas dejando a las personas que él más quería; pero nunca se escapará de vuestros corazones. Después de las lágrimas quedarán todos los buenos momentos que compartisteis con él.
Adolfo era una persona excepcional, siempre amable, atento y dispuesto a ayudar. Para mi siempre fue una alegría verle con esa sonrisa tan dulce que tenía.

  Remembering Adolfo as early as 1st grade, he was always a fun loving guy! We’ve had so many wonderful memorable moments throughout our lives. From hanging out in my parent’s basement  to new year’s parties at his house. 

Adolfo was a modern day Cary Grant… charming, good looking, looked great in a suit, debonair, funny and yes loved to act goofy too! 

I will never forget there was one line from the movie Princess Bride he would love to say and act… He would get into character with and say it with a Spanish accent… 
“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!” The laughs we had!!! 

Oh Adolfo you will be sorely missed and will remember you by so many wonderful moments.

Conocí a Adolfo durante el máster en 2021 e iniciamos una buena amistad. Disfrute de su amistad y cercanía mientras estuvo en Madrid y posteriormente en la distancia. He tardado dos días en asimilar la triste noticia. Siento profundamente el fallecimiento de nuestro adorable Adolfo. 
Tuvé la gran suerte de conocerlo y trabajar con el en Madrid a finales de los 90. Siempre tenía una sonrisa, siempre amable con los demás, siempre dispuesto a ayudar a aquellos que lo necesitaban. A pesar de la distancia que nos separaba entre Canadá y España siempre intentábamos ponernos al día por teléfono un par de veces al año. Era un amigo brillante, inteligente y con un humor sarcástico y especial. En definitiva, era una persona especial, simpática bondadosa y querida por todos.
Desde Madrid, Montse y yo nos unimos al enorme dolor y vacío que embarga la inesperada pérdida de mi genial e increíble amigo Adolfo. Os acompañamos en estos momentos tan dificiles y lamentamos en lo más profundo de nuestro corazón su perdida. Os hacemos llegar nuestro más sentido pésame y os deseamos mucho ánimo para seguir adelante.

Queridos Raquel, Amaya, Iñaki , Elena, Adolfo y Maria Luisa. Sabeis que estamos con vosotros en estos momentos dificiles y que os queremos tanto como queriamos a nuestro Adolfo. 

Annie : My dear friend Adolfo more like a brother, we have known each other since we were kids and shared so many fun and memorable moments. I will never forget our time in Sevilla, Expo 92. It was one big party for 6 months. I am so fortunate that I was one of the 4 girls that shared that apartment with you where a lot of crazy and happy moments took place. I will miss you dearly. 

Rafael : Yo conoci a Adolfo haciendo el master en Madrid, y desde entonces hemos sido buenos amigos y hemos compartido grandes momentos juntos. Hoy vivo en Montreal y tengo a Annie y Audrey en mi vida gracias a esta amistad. Recuerdo con cariño una cena que tuvimos en vuestra casa en 2004 cuando Adolfo decidio abrir la botella de vino (viña ardanza gran reserva) que yo le habia dado en Madrid varios años antes y que guardaba para una ocasion. La ocasion fue para recibirnos porque ese año Annie y yo llegamos a Montreal para casarnos. Siempre que una botella de viña ardanza llega a casa, Adolfo viene a mis recuerdos. Seguiremos compartiendo copas a tu salud alli donde estes. Hasta siempre Adolfo.


I can’t come to terms that we have lost such a great one. We lost a great husband, father, son, brother, friend & co-worker. Life is nothing without friends and family and Adolfo is someone who I considered to be both. We we’re so similar in many ways, committed 100% to work, family, friends, and both married to strong, determined women. Our main difference is that Adolfo had better hair…in fact, he actually had hair. I will forever miss his sound effects to Coronation Street and his imitations of the penguins in Madagascar. There are countless memories that we have shared. From parties, restaurants, vacations to the great times at U2 & Simple Minds concerts. Oh, and how can we forget about all the dancing in his kitchen with Raquel & Carol as if we were on “So you think you can dance!” Adolfo will be difficult to replace on game night when its boys against the girls. Without Adolfo, I will now lose every argument to Carol & Raquel! Adolfo, every time I pour myself a vodka soda I will think of you. Every Simple Minds song that plays will remind me of you. You will forever be so dearly missed and a part of my heart has been lost forever. We will meet again one day my dear friend, “Don’t you forget about me”.  - Rocco

Well, where do I begin…Adolfo was a man that I feel truly blessed to have had the honor to call my friend. Many, many years have passed and we have shared so many memories. I watched you dance with your bride, beam with pride when your children were born and sing Simple Minds songs like you were on stage! Adolfo was a man that made you feel welcome; safe and at ease. His calm demeanor filled up the room and his smile was contagious. His love for his family and friends was unconditional. We hugged each other everytime we got together and it breaks my heart that we are no longer able to. 

I will, however, smile and laugh when I think about the good times that we shared together. 
All four of us “Dirty Dancing” in the kitchen while your kids tried to sleep, telling us off for being too loud! Adolfo who NEVER dances, danced to the 80s music till the early hours of the morning. We laughed so much that night! Who could imagine that four people could have so much fun dancing in a kitchen?   

As long as he took an afternoon nap, Adolfo was good to go! Suppers, parties, concerts, 
vacations and our last game night together which I will cherish forever. That was the last time I had the pleasure of seeing you laugh, sip a vodka soda and hang around my kitchen table. Adolfo, you are such a great friend and I will miss you and your Paddington Bear coat. 
I am blessed that you were part of the last 26 years of my life. 


Adolfo,  I will miss you and the coffees we had together.

Nous n’oublierons jamais les Noël passés avec la familia Sastron , toi qui se donnais toujours à 100% pour gagner le fameux cadeau surprise. I first met Adolfo when he worked on the RBC futures desk, and then I was fortunate to work with him as a colleague at CDCC.   Adolfo was a class act in every sense of the word - kind, thoughtful, honest, and generous of spirit.  We spent a lot of time working and travelling together and I always enjoyed and appreciated his company, his perspective and his good humor.  I know how much he loved his family - he would  keep me up to date on all of Amaya's swimming accomplishments and Inaki's soccer career with tremendous pride.  I will miss him very much, and I wish you all strength and courage during this very difficult time.
May his memory be a blessing.

Adolfo, your calm and reflective demeanour was infectious and something that always left an impression on us each time we were together.  

Your unconditional generosity and thoughtfulness was unique.  Without knowing us, you and Raquel invited our family to your home in between a cold soccer tournament to warm up, dry our wet clothes and fed us.  We knew at that moment we had met some incredible friends. 

You will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.  We will help watch over your beautiful children and wife . We love you and will miss you terribly. 

I have so many good memories about Adolfo but one that my Family always seem to talk about is an NFL football weekend that we share with him. We were a bunch of guys drinking beer in the hotel room in shorts and t-shirt and here comes Adolfo out of the washroom wearing  silk p-j's and an ascot, let me tell you that we were stunned and burst into laughter but that was the kind of guy that Adolfo was to make people laugh. I have known him since we were kids and will miss him terribly. My deepest sympathies to all of the family. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again.

One of my fondest memories of Adolfo was of him doing a rendition of Gene Kelly's "Singing in the Rain" one late night coming out of Scaramouche.  I am grateful that Adolfo made "space" for me when I started dating his best friend and my future husband .

While we didn't know him very well, I remember him as quick with a smile and laugh. He, and all your family, are known for your friendliness, kindness and generosity. We have been thinking a lot lately of memories of Adolfo, including the time not long after you all moved in next door and we needed to borrow a baking pan. We asked Laurie across the road, but she wasn’t home at the time. Within minutes our bell rang and there was Adolfo holding an armful of various pans with a huge smile!  Just a small example of the kind family you are!

You were wonderful, thoughtful neighbours and we are so lucky to know a family like yours. Adolfo always had a smile and kindness to share - he was such a light.

Adolfo, I am one of the privileged few who can say cut your hair and helped you maintain your “cool” status with a constant fresh look 😊 When I first started not everyone entrusted me with that task but you certainly put your faith in me even though it took me a few tries to get it right❤️ You were always so kind and funny and even a little bit shy at times. You always took the time to go see Hugo (most likely building something in the yard) and maybe even grabbing a quick beer while you chatted (and always in French might I add) ❤️ Also so many party nights with our families including lots of dancing to 80’s tunes and good times up until the last one celebrating your anniversary a couple of months back ❤️ Keep the party going for all of us up in heaven where we will all eventually meet again ❤️ We will miss you dearly and will help take care of your family in your absence. My husband and I had the honour of meeting Adolfo just in the last couple years.
Although we’ve met him less than an handful of times, we had the pleasure to get invited at their house this past summer, for a Kayak/paddle board excursion on the windy lake! 
Despite feeling weak from his recent vaccine, Adolfo a trooper, came with us and Raquel and had the chance to witness at Paddle boarding, which ended up with me taking a full plongé into take. Raquel caught every on video of course.
We had a great night with them and had the chance to enjoy his company, great humour on a few other occasions.

I had the pleasure of knowing Adolfo professionally.  Not only was he extremely knowledgeable and helpful at TMX / CDCC, but I always looked forward to in-person meetings with him;  his unique approach to problems and brutal honesty was always refreshing.  My sincerest condolences to his family throughout this difficult time.

I remember arriving to Montreal from Paris in late 1999 and meeting Adolfo who like me worked in finance. He was incredibly welcoming and it was always a pleasure to see him whenever we "bumped" into each other in Canada or in the US. He is one of a kind and will be missed.

I have known Adolfo as an industry colleague for several years. First through Bank of Montreal and then as part of the FIA Operations Division. La noticia de lo sucedido a Adolfo me ha llenado de tristeza sin conocerlo personalmente. En mi casa siempre se ha comentado que una prima de mi padre, María Luisa, vivia con su familia en Canadá... Hace unos años en una boda en España tuve la suerte de conocerla, a ella, su marido y su hija Elena, pero se quedó pendiente conocer a Adolfo hijo aunque recuerdo hablar de Él con todos ellos.
María Luisa, se que tenías comunicación con mi padre, Ramón, se que él también hubiera sentido mucho la noticia y te hubiera consolado en un momento como este. Os mando a todos desde España un abrazo eterno, para que se lo transmitas de nuestra parte a Raquel y los chicos.

To Raquel, Inaki and Amaya, please accept my most heartfelt condolences on the loss of Adolfo.  We were all lucky to have known him and I'm sure we all share very fond memories of our time together with him.   

As a current and former work colleague of Adolfo, I remember the fun times we spent together.  He always had a knack for making us all laugh with his off the cuff words like "tergiverser" that used to get us all laughing at once.  He was a genuinely kind and modest soul who I thoroughly enjoyed talking to and joking around with.  

While I know it's incredibly hard not to be sad, I can't help but smile when I think of the fun times I spent with Adolfo and prefer to remember him this way.

Rest in peace my friend

I had the pleasure of working with Adolfo every day for five years when we were both on the RBC futures desk in Montreal. I will always remember him as a gentleman first. Luckily for him he had a great sense of humour which he needed when working with the team then! He always had a sense of balance, knowing when to be serious and when he could let off steam and we all appreciated his insights. 

I can recall speaking to him many times about his native country and his life there, he was so proud to call himself a Spaniard. And on these cold January days I’m also reminded of how much he hated the frigid temperatures (at least back then) and how he would bundle himself up beyond all recognition, he could barely turn his head! 

Adolfo, I’m going to miss you buddy, you were truly a class act and a very hard act to follow. 
My condolences to your wife and children as well as your parents. Rest In Peace.
