Mr. Albert Micheal McArdle

Loving Husband of the late Joan McArdle (nee Champagne). Caring Father to Randy Dobinson, Wendy Dobinson (Hal), and Andrew (Natalie) McArdle. Loving Grandfather of Matthew (Nicole) Dobinson, Courtney Dobinson and Nathan and Aaron McArdle. Proud Great-grandfather to Caitlin, Olivia, and Parker. Caring Uncle to James and Victoria Champagne. Survived by his sister Connie McArdle and Aunt Vera Evans. Predeceased by his 2 brothers in law Carl and William Champagne and sister-in-law Kathy.

Born in Lachine, Quebec, Albert was extremely proud of his Lachine roots and the memories forged during his days at Lachine High School and as a scout and rover. Friendships made during his younger days have continued for over 70 years. Bert loved to reminisce about the numerous canoe trips, golf outings, and good times had with the “OLD BOYS”. He always looked forward to the monthly lunches with the “Five guys from Lachine”.

His passion for the scouting movement continued past his days as a scout and rover. Albert spent over 55 years as a volunteer with Scouts Canada as a leader and ambassador. For this, he was awarded the Silver Acorn and was further awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn commemorating his special contributions to Scouts Canada.

Albert was employed for over 35 years as a structural steel draftsman for Dominion Bridge in Lachine Quebec.

Albert was fiercely proud of his indigenous Mohawk heritage traced to his Mother Annie Montour from Kahnawake, Quebec. Known to many across Quebec and Ontario, Albert aka “CHIEF TOP LEAF” spent almost 60 years presenting to Scout Groups, Elementary schools, Community and church groups, water festivals and conservation parks. He would share his knowledge of the indigenous way of life 500 years ago and their respect for nature. A skilled storyteller, he could captivate audiences young and old as he told many Indigenous Legends. In 2012 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Among his hobbies, he was a skilled woodworker and avid Nature lover.

Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the nurses, staff, and personal support workers of the CLSC of Lasalle for their care and compassion during Dad’s last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to le Nichoir in Hudson QC or St. Stephens Anglican church in Lachine QC.

A joint celebration of life for both Albert and Joan McArdle will be held Saturday, December 4th, 2021 at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20, Pointe-Claire, QC. Visitation from 1-2:30 PM with a service to follow from 2:30-3:30 PM. A reception with light refreshments will follow from 3:30-5 PM.

For those who are unable to attend in person, you will be able to view the service via live stream on Albert's obituary webpage under Scheduled Services. COVID restrictions (masks, social distancing) will be in place, with a max. of 50 in attendance at any time.
