It is with hearts full of sorrow and love that we announce the passing of David Orlando Walcott, who departed this life suddenly after a brief illness. David was born on December 9, 1957, in the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, the cherished son of the late Barbara and Denys Walcott. David — known to so many as “Coach Dave” — was a loving and beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
A true original, David was a free spirit who marched unapologetically to the beat of his own drum. Whether he was building a business in clothing, beverages, or sports accessories, or just sharing a story and a laugh, he did it with flair, determination, and his signature mischievous wit.
David was a proud father to Chad (Emma), Karl (Danielle), and Daniel (Jackie), and a doting grandfather to little Etta Soleil, who brought a new sparkle to his life. He shared many years of life and parenthood with his former wife, Katarina, and share the legacy of their children. David is survived by his brother Tony Walcott, his sisters Charmaine Walcott and Shelley Walcott Philippe, brother-in-law Taylor, and cherished niece and nephew, Ashley and Noah.
His love of music could fill a house. His playful teasing could disarm even the grumpiest mood. And his passion for hockey—Barbadian roots and all—was second only to the joy he found in family.
David’s life was not about convention—it was about connection. He lived with humor, fought for his dreams, and always left us with something to remember. Though he is no longer physically with us, we carry forward his charisma, his stories, and his unstoppable Spirit.
