Elizabeth (Liz) Dorothy McAuslane (nee Crofts), resident of Beaconsfield, Quebec for 49 years, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2022, at the age of 91 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Pointe-Claire, Quebec.
Liz was born in London, England, on August 25, 1931, to Kathleen Dix and Charles Bertram Crofts. She resided in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, until emigrating to Canada in 1954. She worked as a secretary until she met and married a charming employee of Trans-Canada Air Lines, Murray McAuslane. She and Murray started a family and traveled the world together. When not exploring the world, she and Murray enjoyed spending time with a group of young families on Woodcroft Road in the newly developed West Island of Montreal. These individuals became lifelong ski weekend and dinner club friends long after the children had grown. Liz was an accomplished equestrian, seamstress, and quilter, and enjoyed singing in the choir of the Beaconsfield United Church. Her quilts are cherished by numerous family members and friends. Liz was generous, kind, laughed out loud often, doted on her grandchildren, and was loved and admired by many.
Liz leaves behind her loving children, Glenn McAuslane and Heather McAuslane (Hans Alborn), and four grandchildren, Cameron, Daniel, Matthew and Linnea. She treasured her extended family of Patti Thomas-Carey (formerly McAuslane), and Ottawa and Australian sisters-in-law (Jean Lemoine and Ruth Crofts) and nieces and nephews. While her circle of friends grew smaller as she aged, the friendship of Linda and John Barry was a source of great comfort to her over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Murray McAuslane (April 2011), the love of her life who she has missed daily, and her dear brother, Michael Crofts (September 2015).
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home (222 Highway 20, Pointe-Claire, Quebec). Friends and family are invited to share memories with the family at the funeral home on Saturday, October 8th, between noon and 2:00 p.m. Graveside service to follow at 2:15 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Liz’s name.
