With immense love and joyful memories, we celebrate the life of Emily (Sorochan) Hunger, our family matriarch, who passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on September 8th. Born in Montreal on May 15, 1931, to Katerina Studnicki and Emilian Sorochan, Milly was a beacon of goodness who radiated warmth, generosity, and energy wherever she went, enriching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Milly was predeceased by two infant brothers, her beloved sisters Sylvia Sawchuck and Janet Ladansky, and her gregarious and fun-loving husband of 39 years Wolfgang Hunger. She was the adored mother of Rick Hunger (Joanne Bedard), Carolyn Hunger, and Robert Hunger (Lyne Roberge), and the cherished Nana of Andrew Hager, Audrey Hunger, Karl Hunger, Nicholas Hager, Max Hunger, Brad Hunger (Zoë Petrakis), and Luke Hunger. Milly’s extended family included Monique Francoeur, Ian and Karen MacArthur, and Luba and Roman Lahola.
A true social butterfly and the queen of hospitality and making people feel special, Milly had a remarkable gift for developing and nurturing strong, lasting relationships throughout her life. For 23 years, she was the heartbeat of the Physical Education and Athletic departments at Vanier College, and her legendary candy jar was always available for staff, students, and their kids. As she did with our family home, Milly greeted everyone with a smile, and she helped create an environment filled with laughter, warmth, and empathy. She always made sure that every guest felt completely welcomed and loved, and because she didn’t want to miss anything, she was usually the last to leave any gathering.
Her graciousness and optimism were legendary, matched only by her vivacious spirit and her unwavering devotion to her family. Milly leaves behind a lasting legacy of compassion, kindness, and celebration… a life best remembered in the stories, hugs, and joyful moments she shared with so many.
Over the last year, our family is particularly appreciative of her caregivers from the team at Elders Best Friend and all the remarkable caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living.
Funeral service on Saturday, September 27 at 10:00 AM at Saint Edmund of Canterbury Church, 105 Beaconsfield Boulevard, followed by coffee/light refreshments and an opportunity to greet the family in the church hall from 11:00-12:00
For those wanting to do something in her memory, her family invites you to share Milly’s spirit of kindness and warmth with all those you touch… just like she did.
