Gwendolyn lived a long and meaningful life shaped by resilience and compassion. She came of age during the hardships of the Great Depression and the uncertainty of the Second World War—experiences that helped form her quiet strength and enduring character.
She was predeceased by her brother, Ken McCaig, in 1992. In 1954, she married John Carmichael, and although their marriage later ended, it brought her greatest joy: her twin sons, David and Donald, born in 1963.
Gwendolyn dedicated 22 years of her professional life as a secretary at Beaconsfield United Church, where she served faithfully from 1975 to 1997. She was a dear friend to
many, maintaining close ties with family and lifelong friends in Kingston, friendships overseas, and a strong connection to her church community. She will be remembered for her warmth, her loyalty, and the genuine care she showed to those around her.
In her later years, she was lovingly cared for at the Maison Valeo in Pierrefonds, where she spent her final chapter in comfort.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons, David and Donald (Sunny), and by her grand-daughter Darya, who will carry her memory forward.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on May 8, 2026, at the Church of Saint John the Baptist, 233 St. Clair Avenue, Pointe-Claire (H9S 4E3), followed by a memorial service from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Her life was a testament to endurance, kindness, and the importance of human connection. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
