OBITUARY

James William Houston

17 July , 19642 September , 2019

On September 2, 2019 at the Jewish General Hospital, with his wife at his side, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of James Houston. He is predeceased by his parents Victor and Claire. He leaves to mourn his loving wife and soulmate of 29 years Martine. James will be sorely missed by his siblings, Sharon (Dave), Cheryl (John), Deborah (Steve), Steve (Barbara Ann) and Frank. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in law, as well as many relatives and friends. His absence will be felt amongst his colleagues at Bob Birnie Arena where he worked as a Zamboni driver for the city of Pointe-Claire. Jim was an animal and nature lover who would enjoy fishing and golfing whenever he had the chance. His absence will be felt as a void since he was a pillar of strength to those close to him. Natasha, his godchild, will always keep him in her heart as Jim was her guiding light and invincible in her eyes. The family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to Maria and her team at the ICU department for the constant support and care provided to him. Visitation will be held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222 autoroute 20, Pointe-Claire, QC on Friday, September 13th, from 2-5 pm, 7-9 pm and Saturday, September 14th from 9:30-10:50. The funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Funeral Home on September 14th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the SPCA of Montreal.

A monumental and beloved member of the Bob-Birnie arena family, Jim’s smile, laughter, heartfelt quick witted humour and caring nature found its way to the hearts of many.

Jim, my friend and colleague, it has truly been a privilege. I am forever grateful to have shared many great conversations and moments during out time at the arena. May your smile shine on as you will be forever in our hearts.

My condolences to Martine, Steve and the Houston family.

Jim, Thank You for your laughter, kind- heart and friendly, ‘hellos’ whenever my daughter and I were at the arena. I remember her and I going behind the arena, at the end of one summer and making a snowman. You were there, having your break and gave us a great big smile! Thanks for taking the photo! Even back in day, during the La Kachette era - you were always such a nice guy!! :)
Martine... Matt and I are sending you out a great big hug and holding you close in our thoughts and prayers. If I had known sooner, I would have been there today... I will raise a glass and think of you both, with love. ❤️ RIP Jim xox

My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Will miss his silent nod and eye contact from far - to be allowed to step on the ice as he closed the doors!

My sincerest condolences to Chantal and all of Jim's family. This is for you Jake....
For many years we would meet at the Old PC Arena. We talked, we argued, we laughed, boy did we laugh. We worked with each other at the PCOT tournament and we always had a couple of cool ones, when time permitted. I will miss seeing your happy smiling face and hearing that larger than life laugh. I was very fortunate to call you a great friend. Keep that ice clean at the big rink in the sky. We will all be there eventually to skate once again. Keep your stick the ice.
Cheers Duker

My sincere sympathy to Jim's family on the loss of such a pleasant man. For many years as I sat in the arena , Jim would drive by on the zamboni and shout "Hi Mom". Later he would stop by for a short chat . He will be missed. Rest in peace Jim.

Jim, you always greeted me with "Chantsy baby" and that great smile of yours. Always listened to my rants and gave me sound advice. You will be sorely missed. Martine you are like my sister and my heart is breaking for you, as you know I am there for you day or night for a shoulder to cry on or to reminisce of the good times with your loving husband.
