Joseph "Kacsirek" Major

After a long illness, Joseph Major passed away peacefully in his sleep at Sunrise Residence in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, Canada, on May 21st, 2019 and will finally be reunited with his late wife of 52 years, Ethel Hirsch-Major, after being separated for seven years. He was born on March 20, 1932, in Budapest, Hungary, the youngest child of the late Etelka Grosz and late Adolf Lichtmann. He immigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in June of 1957, and married his wife on September 8, 1960, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He will be missed by his son, Eric, and son-in-law. Christian Pedersen. He was the brother of the late Gyorgy Lichtmann; the late Akos Major; the late Victor Lichtmann; the late Andrew Major, and the late Klari Major. He was the brother-in-law of Robert Hirsch and his wife, Rose Middleton; George Hirsch and the late Helene Bienvenu; Gabi Kegl-Major, and the late Aranka Sproha-Major. He was uncle to Zsofia Dezsenyi, George Dezsenyi and Judit Vesei-Dezsenyi; the late Elizabeth Aranka Major, Andrew Hirsch and Chantal Robitaille-Hirsch; Kenneth Hirsch and Persefoni Apostolakos-Hirsch; Derek Hirsch and Naomi Lucate-Hirsch; Kevin Hirsch, and Patrick Hirsch and Janice Lapin-Hirsch. He was great-uncle to Zsuzanna Pelle-Kubyani and her husband Marton Kubinyi; Panka Pelle and her husband Balazs Badics; Laszlo Dezsenyi and Petra Rohde-Dezsenyi; Csilla Peto; Cindy Innes-Martin; Cory Innes, and Kathy Anderson; Gabriella Innes; William, Michaela and Emilie Hirsch; Gabriel, Katerina, James and Julian Hirsch; Kaiden Hirsch Brassard, and Hadley, Henley and Hunter Hirsch. He was great-great uncle to Emma Kubinyi; Mareike, Maya, and Denise Dezsenyi; Ida and Isabelle Innes, Teagan and Ebony Martin.

A special mention goes out to the team from Bethcare.com, especially Jackie Bohbot, who was his main caregiver (and like a daughter to him) along with Brenda and Maria, and, of course, Beth Cytryn, as well as Mylene, Laura, Tina, Mary, and the rest of the staff at Sunrise Residence.

No funeral services are planned, but there will be a memorial get-together planned at a later date.
