Lu died peacefully on June 19, 2019 at her home in the Maxwell Residence in Baie D’Urfe, Quebec. She was surrounded by loved ones.

Lu’s focus was her family. Lu was a devoted wife to Tom for 68 years; a mother to Peter, Mike (Cathy), John, and Jan (Brian). She loved her grandchildren Yonda, Kayla, Cody, Stella, Shane, Mira, and Riley. She was proud to be a great-grandmother to Abi, Mattie, Jackson, Evelyn and Orla. Lu was fortunate to have Bill as her loving companion for the last two years of her life.

Lu’s open heart and caring ways were a trademark, she was a friend to everyone who entered her life. Well known for her hugs, Lu loved and was loved by all.

Starting the volunteer program at Beaconsfield High School, Lu worked as a career counsellor for 20 years. She was an advocate for youth, especially teenagers. Many called her “Mom O”. Lu will be deeply missed. Her enthusiasm for life will live on through all that knew her.

Visitation at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home on Saturday, June 29th from 2:00 pm to 3 pm. A Memorial Service will follow (222 Hwy 20, Pointe-Claire, QC, H9S 3X6).

Lu loved colors so please dress as colorfully as possible in honor of Lu’s vibrant life. It was Lu’s wish for donations to be made to Foster Parents Plan, Canada.

Dear Pete, Mike, John and Jan,

Thinking of you and remembering your wonderful mother. Lu had a gift of making everyone she met feel important I was one of the lucky recipient of her kindness starting in the early years of RPC. Your mother was a force to behold and will be dearly missed. So many wonderful memories with the Oosterhoff family. I send my deepest condolences to all of you. May the wonderful memories of your mom filled you with love. Wishing you peace in the days ahead. Mary Bryant Lawson

The first thing one noticed about Lou was her 1000-watt smile. I got to know her and Tom during the six years I spent teaching at Beaconsfield High in the '70s. Jan was in my Grade 8 History class and I still remember the very high quality of one of her essays.
I was invited to the Oosterhoffs from time to time, where Tom and I would have friendly arguments about the merits of trade unionism (I was on the executive of the local teachers' union and led them in a massive government employees' strike in 1972).
It got even more interesting when I married a Dutch girl whom I had met on an Israeli kibbutz.
To Jan and your brothers: Both of your parents led long and fruitful lives that touched the lives of so many others. It is sad when you lose them, but oh, what memories!

Dear Jan, Pete, Mike & John
On behalf of Lynn, Meagan, Mother June , Barbie, Ken --our sincerest condolences . I mentioned Lu's passing to my Mother June Mac ; sadly she's unable to make the recall ; though she did smile brightly several times at the mention of "Tom & Lu ". I'm reminded of how far back the Oosterhoff 's & the Mac's go -- Ken & Tom @ Queen's and Lu & June joining them @ functions in Ottawa ; cottaging @ Charlo , NB ; long before RPC ; 60 years of wonderful memories . Lu was a remote surrogate Mother to Meagan, Barbie & me during our RPC staff summers and who can forget Tom & Lu center stage at Lynn's stag & wedding. " An old Cape Breton saying" you wont know how much she meant and was loved until she's gone " --this sentiment may truly ring true for you and your Families" . God Bless Mother Lu ! Best personal regards Larry Mac

Hi Guys, so many memories flooding my mind. Lu and Tom were such lively, loving people. Our morning swims always include a round of "Good morning all you Campers" with a body roll on the dock in your Dad's memory. I always think of her as the Loon lady for her perfect Loon call. She had such an amazing memory for names, making everyone feel special. She was well loved and will be well missed. But we will sing on in her memory. Love and light, Victoria Pearce

Dear Jan, Mira and Riley, I just heard news of Lu’s passing. She was such an incredible joy, a delight to see whenever she came into the store, sharing hugs and her enthusiasm for life when visiting east to see you. How wonderful that she was a part of your life and you hers. Susie
