It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Irwin Wagstaff (of Pointe Claire, Quebec) announce his sudden death on July 21st, 2022 at the age of 89. He died peacefully at the Lakeshore General Hospital surrounded by his loving family, after complications from a recent fall.
Peter (Grandad) was born on March 18th, 1933 to Herbert James Wagstaff and Susan Adelaide Leach. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margery Alice Wagstaff (Fawcett), his five children, Jeffery (Kelly Whitelock-Wagstaff), Eric (Anne Marois), Ted (Jacqueline Belsito), Rob (Kelly Wagstaff), and Cathy (Ian Gergovich), and his 17 grandchildren, Alyshia, Megan, Jessica, James, Parker, Jenna, Tori, Holly, Lindsay, Ava, Thomas, Abigail, Caitlin, Evan, Lyam, William, and Wynn. He is also survived by his sister in-law and brother in-law, Anne and Jack Vance, and their family.
Born in St. Catherines and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Peter spent most of his adult life with Margery raising their family in Pointe Claire, Quebec, where he worked as a sales manager for Anthony Foster & Sons, followed by Tenaquip. Later in his retirement, they lived in both Lyn and Kingston, Ontario, where they spent many happy years together.
Peter’s love of history, music, sports, and stamps was only surpassed by his love of the family. A perfect day for Peter would begin with him enjoying a cold beer at a Yankees game, listening to Mozart on the drive home in his Oldsmobile ’88, catching a Leafs game on TV with Marge (Bama), and then ending the night sipping on a scotch and meticulously planning their next 20 years of travel.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Collins Clarke Funeral Home (22, A20, Pointe Claire, Quebec). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 2:00pm at the same location. The service will also be available via live stream (https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/57708).
Donations can be made in memory of Peter Wagstaff to the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation (PCFF) at www.pcff.ca. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Chartwell Le Wellesley for their continued care and support, and the staff at Lakeshore General Hospital for their care in his final days.
