He rejoins his beautiful wife of nearly 40 years Louise Gauthier along with his parents Norma and Tom Gillies as well as his beloved little dog and best friend Lucy. He is survived by his three children Robert(Maeve), Mark(Elyse) and Amy(Josh) along with his first grandchild, due in July. He also leaves behind his cherished brother David and sister Laurie.
Ron was a wonderful father, husband, sibling and friend to so many. His warm, kind and laid-back nature drew people in instantly. He was charming, chatty and eccentric with a unique sense of humour that few could resist. Ron had many interests and devoted his time to learning about them and honing in on his hobbies. His love and knowledge of all things aviation was not only interesting but incredibly impressive. Stemming from this curiosity, Ron spent many years building his skills as a fine scale modeler. He leaves behind many spectacular model planes and ships built with precision and care. He also possessed a wealth of knowledge of history and geography which came in handy when watching Jeopardy every evening with Louise and the kids. Ron was also an avid reader, often balancing multiple books at one time. His genuine curiosity and love of learning shined through in all aspects of his life. We cannot forget to mention his love of music and his carefully curated playlist that he listened to daily.
Ron, Dad, (soon-to-be) Grandpa, we feel so lucky to have had the privilege of having you in our lives. You are absolutely one of a kind and not a day will go by that we do not think of you and smile. We will try our best to take your advice in the future and “not sweat the small stuff” We love you more than words can describe. Rest in peace.
The family has decided that due to the rapidly approaching arrival of Ron’s granddaughter, to hold off on planning a service at this time. A celebration of life will be held in his honour sometime in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence.
The family would like to thank the outstanding support they received from the residence staff – The compassion and respect both Ron and Louise received in their final weeks at the residence was appreciated more than words can say.
The family would also like to thank the palliative care team at the CLSC du Lac-St-Louis as well as the team from NOVA West Island for providing exceptional care for both Ron and Louise and connecting the family with many invaluable resources during such a difficult time. Their nurses Mandeep and Dominique went above and beyond on multiple occasions to support Ron, Louise and the family. Your kindness did not go unnoticed.
