

Daniel A. Montemayor of Pompano Beach, FL passed away on January 26, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born on November 1, 1934 in Dallas Texas. He was the second of four children and the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel A. Montemayor Senior.
He attended NR Crozier Technical HS and upon graduation the entire family moved to New York City. He joined the US Air Force through the Aviation Cadet program and upon graduation received his Navigator Wings and a Commission as a Second Lieutenant. He primarily flew transport aircraft and participated in extensive artic flying including resupplying weather stations on floating ice islands north of Alaska, delivering supplies for construction of two Distant Early Warning radar sites on the Greenland icecap and supporting the Deep Freeze mission in Antarctica to the South Pole Station & the Marie Byrd Land site. He was transferred to Southeast Asia for a one year tour flying 120 AC-130 Spectre gunship combat missions where he survived the first gunship loss after receiving battle damage over the Ho Chi Minh Trail. While stationed in Virginia he completed all academic requirements and was awarded a BS degree in Business Management from Hampton Institute. He retired with 23 years of service, nearly 7,000 flying hours and rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Afterwards he worked as a Real Estate Appraiser for many years appraising residential properties for banks and other clients.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Joan Freeman Montemayor and one of his sons, Robert Freeman Montemayor. He is survived by four children Mitchell Montemayor, Daniel A. Montemayor III (Terri), Steven F. Montemayor (Oksana) and Martha K. Allen (David); his girlfriend and companion for the last 20 years, Delores Rose, ten of his grandchildren, Corey M. Kelley, Jody A. Montemayor, Heather J. Montemayor, Daniel A. Montemayor IV, Savannah M. Montemayor, Victoria L. Montemayor, Kristina B. Montemayor, Marcel J. Dumas, Jared T. Allen, & Tyler W. Allen and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, Feb 1, 2024 from 3:00pm – 7:00pm at KRAEER FUNERAL HOME, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064; casual dress. A Funeral Mass at St. Coleman Catholic Church. Interment will be scheduled at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
A visitation for Daniel will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, Florida 33064. A funeral mass will occur Friday, February 2, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Coleman Catholic Church, 1200 S. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062.
