Gloria grew up in Westbury Road, St. Michael where she attended Westbury Primary School and later moved to Tweedside Road and completed her education at The Ogray Studio High School. Gloria married the late Carol Dowrich in 1947, and this union produced two daughters, Ava and Jacqueline. She was a beautician/hair stylist, a job that she enjoyed.
In 1961, Gloria immigrated to New York, USA. She attended The Apex School of Beauty and hoped to continue on the same career path, but that was not meant to be. In 1964, Gloria graduated from the New York Institute of Dietetics and started a new career path as a dietitian. She worked for New York Hospital in New York City for 30 years until her retirement in 1995. These years as a dietitian allowed Gloria the luxury of working in the environment that she loved best – in the kitchen. She enjoyed working with food from purchase to preparation to plating and presentation. Work for Gloria was always a pleasure.
Gloria was a dedicated wife to her second and late husband Vernon Charles. They were married in 1978 and shared over 25 years before his passing. Gloria lived in Bella Vista, Arkansas with her daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Wesley Stay for about two years before relocating to Parkland, Florida in December of 2011. She resided there with her daughter and son-in-law Ava and DeLisle Callender until her passing.
