Dear Joel and Family, Several wonderful memories came to mind of our Judith. I remember grousing to her about my disdain for CPAP mask at night and her face twinkled with such wisdom,  as she said, “Sheryl, reframe that, it is your breath of life!” Another time, I was a Grad student doing my rare mall shopping, when I saw Joel and his Judy, walking  together, appearing oblivious to the outside world, deep in conversation; Judy was hanging on to every word. Their heads leaned  together, with the ease and beauty of a  loving married couple , who were close friends and still very much into each other after all those years. Judy taught me about building therapeutic relationships, that left clients feeling optimistic and cared for even from the first encounter. I met Judith and Joel in 1999 when I traveled to Knoxville for my introduction in to the world of neurofeedback.  Judith's warmth and gentleness was the perfect balance for this new experience with electrodes and amplifiers.  I recall watching her engage a young child through Uno playing and joking in the middle of what I thought was a very serious brain training session.  At a time of beginning clinician anxiety,  she infused me with early confidence by saying that you are a therapist, you will do great with this type of work.  Her genuineness and ease made that believable.

Some of our earliest experiences become templates.  Judith modeled doing this work in a warm, caring, manner with precision, while having fun and inviting the client to have fun with her.  After this many years, when I think or talk to others about the psychotherapeutic aspect of this work, I think of her. 



I met Judith over 20 years ago and we shared many laughs and I admired and loved her.  She will always be remembered for her optimistic smile and positive attitude throughout the trials and tribulations in her role as president of ISNR and other organizations.  Her smile and laughter was inspiring and with a delightful twinkle in her eyes.   She had the special quality of gently sharing her wisdom and love and leaving all those she met feeling better and positive.   She will be sorely missed.  


Dear Joel and the Lubar Family,
Judy's love, wisdom, and caring ways will continue on in all of us who learned from her.  You, Joel, and Judy were our first mentors in neurofeedback and your careful teaching still forms the backbone of what we do. Memories of a week with you both in Knoxville are still fresh, as are the numerous times our paths crossed at AAPB and ISNR meetings over the last 25 years. Judith could always make one think more deeply with considered comments, usually delivered with a smile, a downward glance and always with a twinkle in her eye. Not sure if she quoted, "They have to know that you care before they care what you know." but she certainly exemplified it. Exploring the family tree of clients is still part of every intake, thanks to her insights. She was a star in her own highly interesting family tree: the continuum of her love will carry on in all the generations that follow.  So many memories to sustain you through this tough time, including our fond memories.

I remember chatting with Judith at several conferences over the years. I appreciated that Judith had an open mind to alternative technologies that had supporting research. She had a truly unbiased, scientific mind and added much to the neuropsychology community. Judith Lubar will be missed by All.

I met Judith over 22 years ago at SSNR conference.  I felt profoundly honored by her presence  at my SSNR - ROSHI workshops, which I used to present, year after year. As we got to know each other, we developed a quiet friendship and at a distance. 
Such a gentle, caring, loving human being, always smiling and reaching out to carress and take away, with her words and smile, the universal pain, ignoring her own.

Dear Joel. My deepest sympathy. I feel that Rosemary and I have known you and Judith forever. So many memories. One of the big treats going to conferences is that Rosemary and I would spend time with Judy and Joel. 
You may recall that we were going to bootleg a trip to Venezuela after a conference and Judith insisted that she take Rosemary’s amber necklaces for safe keeping fearing that Rosemary wearing her amber would put her at risk. And this is just one of overwhelming memories triggered when I heard of Judith’s passing.

I remember Judith – we were in Tokyo at a Japanese Biofeedback / Neurofeedback World Meeting extravaganza. We were waiting for the bus tour and she was standing next to me and I used an idiom, ‘like ‘Deja Vu’ or "Je ne  sais pas?  Judith replied in French,  and we sat next to each other the entire tour,  speaking French. What a great memorable time I had with her warmth, intelligent, and brilliant obserations. Joel and family, Our deepest condolences as our hearts are with you at this time of loss.

I am saddened to hear that Judith has passed away. She was a great friend and mentor. She was helpful to me when I worked to get certification for the main research staff working with children with ADHD for Imperial College and Northwick Park Hospital in London. I will miss her wisdom and the gleam in her eye. My heartfelt condolences to Joel and her children and grandchildren and all those who will be left with a huge hole in their hearts. 

When I picture Judith she was always smiling or laughing.  She was greatly respected for her wisdom in neurofeedback and working with children and families, but it was her countenance and warmth that will be most remembered.   I'm so sorry, Joel.

Joel, I am so sorry for your loss.  It was a pleasure for me to meet Judith.  I know that she will be missed by so many.  My best to you and your family at this difficult time.

I wish there were words I could use to signify the depth of your loss. Judith meant so much to you and all those who were privileged enough to know her. Her warmth, humor, courage, intelligence and devotion to you are but a few of the things that made her special. She will be missed by all.

She and I (Deb) clicked the minute we talked about how we enjoyed dancing. Her life  is a remarkable journey. She truly inspired me.

Sending my deepest heartfelt sympathies out to Joel and family; he and Judith were so very close and shared an understanding of the human condition, which they in turn shared with everyone they met in the hopes of helping children and families live in harmony.  I met Judith at an ISNR conference when she facilitated a workshop.  The workshop was about neurofeedback in the context of family dynamics.  She did this through role playing a scene in which a family comes in with their child for neurofeedback - I volunteered as the mother!  Her point was that while neurofeedback can bring about positive changes; it’s the support and dynamics of the family that foster and nurture those positive changes.  She was a true social worker, so I identified with her right away.  She had a kind, gentle, loving manner about her  that belied her deep perception and understanding of children and families.   It’s my hope and prayer that she will somehow continue to spread that love and understanding resting in peace.
