

Kenneth Joseph Schwartzenberger passed away suddenly on Friday, November 25, 2022. Ken was born on November 7, 1950, in Napoleon, North Dakota, son of Joe and Mary (Bitz) Schwartzenberger. At six months of age, he and his family moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan. Ken graduated from Belleville High School, Ypsilanti, MI; received his BA from Eastern Michigan University and MSW from the University of Michigan School of Social Work.
A beloved husband, loving father, proud grandfather, uncle and friend, a forever Michigan Wolverine and Dodgers and Lakers fan, Ken loved the game of basketball and enjoyed the beach life. He retired to Florida from Long Beach, CA., with his wife Peggy in 2016, after a professional career as a child and family therapist. Ken was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the State of California, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor with the Association of Play Therapy, and an Experiential Play Therapy-Diplomat with the Center for Experiential Play Therapy. He was highly respected by his professional colleagues and made a significant contribution to the field of Play Therapy as a faculty member in the University of San Diego Play Therapy Program, a published author and professional mentor.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gregory A. and sister-in-law Janice (Garvin) Schwartzenberger and brother Joseph M. Schwartzenberger.
Ken is survived by his wife of 52 years, Peggy (Stokes) of Pompano Beach, FL.; son Justin Dylan, daughter-in-law Allyson (Ogden) and granddaughter Leah Rose Schwartzenberger of Atascadero, CA.; brother John (Diane) Schwartzenberger of Ypsilanti, MI.; and sister Patricia (Alexander) Zangara of Grass Lake, MI. He also leaves behind in-laws, Gary (Barbara) Stokes, David (Sarah) Stokes, Cheryl A. Stokes, and Donna Schwartzenberger; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and colleagues.

Celebrations of life will be planned for later dates.
Celebrating a life well lived, blessed by his love and light, we will forever be “dancing our sorrow away”.
