I am sorry for your loss! My husband Roger and I send our condolences.

My sister in law, Renee Boudreaux, myself and some of  our children met Father Mike on a trip to  Medjugorje in 1988. Since that time he has touched the lives of our families in a profound way and has been such a blessing. We are so sorry he has left us; however, now we have a mediator in heaven.

Betty and I extend our deepest sympathy for you, Tara and Geri. It was only a month ago that we visited our most handsome, holy and humble friend of over 50 years and enjoyed recalling memories of our friends and days in the Juniorate. I promised Mike that I would take him up to West Park in the fall to visit the graves of some of our old Irish Christian Brother friends who had passed away, to walk and silently pray along "Rosary Walk". Instead, he is now up there with them all, regaling them with one of his humorous stories I am sure. God bless you Msgr. Mike! Our family was privileged to know Msgr. Flanagan and attend memorable holy masses and gatherings in his home.  He must have found sincerity most appealing because his friends consistently exhibited this virtue which he himself possessed in abundance.  Much can be said of his rich body of work from counseling young people to working with the poor and in later years his tireless travels to give parish retreats.  Until we meet again, Monsignor Michael Patrick Aloysius Flanagan, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

My sincere sympathy to Msgr. Falanagan"s family.  I trained with Mike in the Christian Brothers and taught with him at Holy Cross School in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.  He was a great teacher, a kind man and a good friend.  He will be missed.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday August 22nd at 9:00am at St Eugene Parish in Asheville, NC. We will miss him. May he rest in peace.
