

Elliot, William "Bill", passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 in the line of duty with the Pompano Beach Fire & Rescue Service. Bill was also known as "MacGyver" in his profession for his intuitive mechanical skills, innovation and clear thinking in crisis and emergency. Always ready to lend a hand with a helpful attitude and endearing smile, Bill helped save and enhance many lives in his over 20 years of duty with the City of Pompano Beach. An avid outdoor person, Bill was at home on his air boat in the Everglades, deep sea fishing or helping a friend solve an impossible mechanical problem. Bill grew up and resided in Lighthouse Point with his brother John, a Boca Raton firefighter. Bill also leaves behind his father, William Elliott Sr., mother Joanne Elliott, sister Mary Beth Williams, nephew Jacob Elliott Williams, and faithful dog Dinghy. Services will include a viewing at First Baptist of Pompano Beach on January 12 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A formal service will be held at Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale on January 13 around noon followed by a reception at First Baptist in Pompano starting after 2 p.m. The family has requested that lieu of flowers, donations to the Greater Broward Firefighters Charity be made in Bill's honor. Bill "went out with his boots on" by enjoying life and in service to others to the very last moment of his life. He will be loved and missed forever not only by his family but the big family of the fire and rescue community. Take care partner, we love you!
