

Lillian Cooper Thompson, age 97, went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born August 11, 1915. She resided in the home built by her great-grandfather, Thomas Hickman Williams.
She received her B.A. degree in 1936 from Blue Mountain College, and then taught for 17 years in schools in Mississippi and Alabama. She later received a degree in Social Services from the University of Tennessee. She worked with the Lee County Welfare Department as a child welfare worker. Later she worked with the Department of mental Health and Education setting up a program for children and adults with special needs. This ended her employment after 44 years of public service as a teacher and as a State of Mississippi public servant. After her retirement, she did volunteer service for many years.
She was a lifetime member of Toxish Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer, and as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. She was a member of the Mary Stuart DAR, and several professional organizations.
Services will be at 10 AM Monday, August 13, 2012 at Toxish Baptist Church with Bro. Gene Hudson and Bro. Paul Chliders officiating; burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Elliott Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Lillian Williams Thompson; four sisters, Nell Thompson Everitt, Ruth Thompson, Cornelia Thompson and Lola Thompson; a brother, Willard Holt Thompson; and one nephew, Don Thompson.
Pallbearers will be: her nephews and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home and from 9 to 10 AM Monday at the church.
