Hattie Mae Sneed, age 88, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS. She was born at Lafayette Springs, MS, February 15, 1922 to Lester A. Mitchell and Model l Gafford Mitchell. At the age of two her family moved to Texas, and she returned to MS when she was 16. She married Oscar Ryland Sneed in 1941, and they made their home in the Hurricane Community where she was a faithful member of the Union Church of the Nazarene. After Mr. Sneed’s death in 1998, she continued to live at home until she became a resident of Union County Health and Rehab due to failing health. An activity she loved at the facility was playing Bingo, but her greatest enjoyment there was being able to attend all the worship services which she loved. Her love of flowers was evident. Her yard was beautiful from early spring until late fall, and she could often be found working in her flowers, although she never considered it work. She always had a beautiful bouquet to take to neighbors or someone sick in the community. In her later years, she became an avid reader, and her Bible was her favorite book. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor.
