James Rex Staten was called to his heavenly home at his home April 5, 2024 in Pontotoc, MS. He was born September 24, 1947 in Quitman, MS to Jason O’Brien Staten, Sr. and Mildred Eloise Turner Staten. He attended Algoma High School and graduated Class of 1965. From 1966-1970 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and served in Vietnam (’68-’69). He was employed at Marshall Durbin as an Inspector, and retired from United States Postal Service. He enjoyed gardening, breaking horses, hunting, tinkering in the shop and especially loved his little 4 legged fur-baby, Nadya.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam of 38 years, 5 children: Christopher (Anita), Vonda (Larry), Marissa, Jonathan, Jana (AJ), 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Janis Crawford, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jason O. Staten, Sr. and Eloise Staten Newell and stepfather, Charles Newell. Grandparents, Hilry and Jessie Staten, Whit and Ethel Turner, two brothers, Jason Staten, Jr., Chris Staten, and sister, Kathryn Staten Windham.
Pallbearers will be: Jake Windham, Larry Sullivan, Jay Houston, Matt Staten, Tim Roberts, and Sam Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be C W Moore, Mike Burton and A.J. Ellis.
Browning Funeral Home will be in charge of services which will be held at The Anchor Baptist Church, 4495 Old Hwy 9N Pontotoc. Visitation will be at Monday, April 8th from 5pm till 8 pm and the Funeral will be Tuesday, April 9th at 2:00 PM at the church, followed by burial at Sands Springs Cemetery near Hurricane.
