

Jason O’Brien Staten, Jr., age 68, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at his residence. He had recently retired from Day-Brite Lighting after working for 44 years. He was a Mason with the Pontotoc Masonic Lodge #81. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, going to auctions and “piddling around”.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Richard Wright officiating; burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Laverne Waldo Staten; his mother: Eloise Staten Newell; his children: Norma Gunter (Chad), Matt Staten, Rachael McKee (Lannie), and Megan Staten; his sister: Janis Crawford (Phil); a brother: Rex Staten (Miriam); and six grandchildren: Brianna Kuykendall (Kendall), Nicholas Gunter, Leah Montgomery, Jordan Montgomery, Taylor McKee and Carson McKee.
He was preceded in death by his father: Jason O’Brien Staten, Sr., his step-father: Charles Newell, his grand-parents: Hilry and Jessie Staten and Ethel and Whit Turner; a brother: Chris Staten, a sister: Kathryn Staten Windham and two nephews: Timmy Crawford and Terry Wayne Campbell.
Pallbearers will be: Lannie McKee, Chad Gunter, Jake Windham, Jonathon Salmon, John Crawford, and Jay Houston. Honorary pallbearers will be: Clarence Hoing, Aaron Martin, Ken Dillard, Kirby Smith, Billy Carter and Terry Self.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Saturday and from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
