
Joyce Rhea Monroe Herndon, age 78, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at NMMC Pontotoc. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pontotoc where she was active in the Choir, taught Sunday school and a member of the Methodist Women. She graduated from Wheatley High School, obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University Central Arkansas and her Masters from the University of Mississippi. She was a devoted educator having taught school at Pontotoc Elementary for over thirty years. She was a member of the Pontotoc Music Study Club and the Cosmopolitan Club. She enjoyed teaching, music, reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles and putting puzzles together.
Graveside services will be at 11 AM Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Pontotoc City Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Corley and Rev. Milton Whatley officiating. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter: Renee Cooper (Joe) of Pontotoc, MS; one brother: Rodney Monroe; a sister-in-law: Pat Monroe; one grandson: Jon Clay Cooper and a special niece: Brenda Lamb.
She was preceded in death by her parents: N.B. Monroe and Louise Riffey Monroe; her husband: Billy E. Herndon, and a brother: H.B. Monroe.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
