
March 2, 1939, in Pontotoc, MS to Hubert L. and Doris Pickens Thomas. He graduated from Pontotoc High School and Itawamba Community College. He and his parents founded Eastgate Fabrics in 1962 when Eastgate Mall opened in Chattanooga, TN. He also engaged in the wholesale distribution of notions and supplies for fabric stores while he lived in Chattanooga.
Mr. Thomas engaged in commercial and residential construction for many years and supervised the building of Pilot Fuel Centers across the country. He developed Westwind Subdivision in Pontotoc, MS beginning in 1996. After retirement he supervised the construction of several homes for Pontotoc County Habitat for Humanity. In that capacity he traveled to Kenya with the local affiliate to build two homes for Kenyan refugees.
He was past president of Pontotoc Civitan Club, past Commander of Post 16, American Legion, Charter member of the Col. J.A. Orr Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans. He also was a member of William Gray Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at West Heights Baptist Church in Pontotoc with Rev. David Hamilton and Rev. Dan Young officiating; burial will follow in West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday and on Thursday from 10 to 11 at West Heights Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Linda Eaves Thomas whom he married in 1962. He also is survived by a son David Keith Thomas (Beverly), Grandson Christopher Thomas (Candace), and Granddaughter Katherine (Katie) Thomas; Sister Billie Jean Sewell (Lewis), nephew Tom Sewell (Melissa) and nieces Lauren Ingraham (Jim), and Jenna Boothe (Leigh).
