
Miss Lee Laverne Bray, age 89, of Pontotoc, retired teacher of Mississippi and Florida, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011. She was a former Assistant Professor of Business at Mississippi University for Women and The University of Mississippi and had taught at the other following places: North Florida Junior College, Madison; Northwest Mississippi Junior College, Senatobia; The Northeast Mississippi Junior College, Booneville; Schools at Glen Allan, Pontotoc, Algoma, Randolph, Toccopola and Springville.
Miss Bray was a graduate of Blue Mountain College and Ole Miss with post graduate work from Mississippi State University and The University of Miami, Miami, FL.
She was a member of the Pontotoc First Baptist Church, Pontotoc Chapter No. 138 of OBS, NEA, SBEA, NBEA, and The Ole Miss Upsilon Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon, and AARP. She served as sponsor of Baptist Student Union on three college campuses and as a renowned sponsor of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda where she taught.
She had concern and compassion for elderly and young alike. She was always doing for other people and showing God’s love to them.
Survivors include her sister Jo Dale Bray Fooshee (Hansel) of Huntsville, AL, a niece Rhonda Wheat (James) Columbus, MS, a nephew Douglas Fooshee (Kandice) Huntsville, AL, and several great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Doug Fooshee, James Wheat, Shannon Murphy and Clint Powell.
Services will be held at Browning Funeral Home Pontotoc, MS Thursday, and December 22, 2011 at 2 o’clock with Charles Bray officiating; burial will follow in the Guinn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blue Mountain College, The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, or a favorite charity. Condolences may be sent to Rhonda Wheat, P.O. Box 5216, Columbus, MS 39704.
