Captain Henry “Sonny” Kopszywa, Jr. passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at his home in Poplarville, Mississippi surrounded by family. Sonny proudly served in the United States Navy for eight years. He was a boat captain for 35 years. Sonny loved the water and was raised in a shrimping family on Point Cadet, in Biloxi, Mississippi, he found great peace on the open seas. He was the beloved patriarch of the Poplarville Clan. Sonny was known for being a good man who cherished his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Roumania Kopszywa; his first wife, Barbara Burge Kopszywa; one brother, Stanley “Rookie” Kopszywa; two grandsons, Mitchel Kopszywa and Chad Creel; one granddaughter, Laci Jones and one nephew, Chris Kopszywa.
Left to forever cherish Sonny’s memory, his wife of 31 years, Carole Kopszywa; five children, Debra Jones (Ricky), Dedrea Jones (John), Mandy Greathouse (Wes), Henry “Skipper” Kopszywa, III and Shelly Kopszywa; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and an honorary grandson, Delarence “Red” Hunt.
Family and friends are invited to attend Sonny’s visitation on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at White Funeral Home, 315 Hwy 11 South, Poplarville, Mississippi from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Sonny’s funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, officiated by Bro. Michael Brown. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Poplarville, Mississippi.
