James William Barnes

Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church (7451 Highway 43 North, Poplarville, MS, 39470) on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Billy Kent Smith will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and have visitation from 11:00 am until services, Monday at the church.

Mr. Barnes was born December 25, 1941 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He was a retired Sergeant First Class with the United States Army Reserve, with 28 years of service and a retiree of the Bogalusa Paper Mill with 35 years of service. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and held memberships in Sherrard Byrd # 353 Masonic Lodge in Poplarville and Center Masonic Lodge # 244 in Bogalusa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Erna Mae Barnes; his son, Timothy William Barnes; three brothers, Calvin Barnes, Gary Dean Barnes, Donald Gene Barnes; and one sister, Gloria Jean Barnes.

Family members include his devoted wife of 59 years, Sylvia Spiers Barnes; two grandchildren, Samantha Nicole Barnes Crawford, Calvin William Barnes; one great grandson, Nicholas Crawford; his sister-in-law, Lena Walker; special neighbor, Greg Shaw; and a host of extended family, friends, and neighbors.
