John J. Pershing of Poplarville, Mississippi passed from this life into God’s presence on Monday, June 12, 2023. He is preceded in death by many loved ones. Grandparents, Jess and Annie Mae Cottrell; father, Paul Jefferson; mother, Mary Racheal Remington; sister, Judith Ann Pershing; and his son, Shane Paige Pershing. Forever left to cherish his memory are his children, Gary (Jen) Loux, Crimson T. Pershing, and Hope (Shawn) Pershing, all of Pearl River County. John left behind 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Many friends along his way, and throughout his life, hauling pulp and tug oil trees. From working as a tugboat hand, to working with Warren paving company for many years.
John loved to fish and paint, never forgetting to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and taking a few moments to reflect on his hobbies and enjoy them. He loved to talk, and converse about anything, the weather, dogs or just what was going on in his mind. He loved to tell stories of long ago, maybe of him getting a spanking for trying to pretend he was his sister, even wearing her dress and bonnet pretending to hang out laundry on the line. The story of him using bacon as a lifter in a truck and it ran just fine till the motor blew from something other than the bacon. John was a creative person, he had many talents and he will truly be missed by his family and friends. May God guide and hold us until we meet again. John’s race is complete on this earth, he fought the good fight.
