Mr. Lawrence Walker Holliday Sr. “Papaw”, son of the late Lawrence Henry Holliday and Mattie Willie Walker Holliday, was one of the last “old school” loggers, lawmen, and businessmen of Pearl River County. He was an iconic figure, well respected for his honesty, integrity, community service, and work ethic. Born August 24th, 1938 in Poplarville, Mississippi, he attended the public schools of Pearl River County and was a graduate of Poplarville High School. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and later in life was a loyal member of the Baptist Barn Church of Poplarville, Mississippi.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Emily Diane Holliday Herring (John Tank Herring), Lawrence Walker Holliday Jr. (Melissa Smith Holliday), Amy Lorraine Holliday and Henry Scott Holliday (Bethany Hudson Holliday). Former Wife and mother of his children: Barbara Pitre Speer; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren; his partner in life: Peggy Hariel Staten; One brother: Laughlin Hudson Holliday (Paulette Kirkland Holliday), a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In honor of Lawrence and in lieu of flowers, the family will be taking donations for the Lawrence Holliday Vocational Scholarship fund. Donations can be made through the go-fund-me link or by donating in person at the Poplarville Branch of First National Bank. The scholarship will aid in the entry for any student of Poplarville High School to attend a college of their choice for a vocational field of study.
Mr. Holliday requested that we celebrate his life and not morn his passing knowing he is now with his heavenly father. The Family will honor his wishes with a Celebration of Life at his family’s estate at the listed time.
