Alice Mowetha Schwarzauer Williams, 97, of Poplarville, MS passed away at home on Friday, December 1, 2023. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 708 Julia St., Poplarville MS, 39470 on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Dr. Eric Pridmore will officiate the service along with Rev. Jeff Pruitt.
Mowetha “Mo” was born on February 14, 1926 in Bayou Goula, LA to Mary Regan and Max Dillon Schwarzauer. She grew up in Slidell, LA where she graduated from Slidell High School. Mo then attended Brenau College in Gainesville, GA and the Tanglewood Academy summer music program in Lenox, MA. She later graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA with a degree in music. Mo married E.B. Williams, Jr. in December of 1947, and became a resident of Poplarville, MS where she and E.B. raised their three children.
Mo served as the organist for the First United Methodist Church in Poplarville for many years. She loved to travel and was an avid golfer. Mo will be remembered for her unwavering perseverance, her love for her family, and her willingness to help those in her community. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and her community.
Surviving family members include two children, E. Bragg Williams, III (Linda) of Pass Christian, MS; and David Dillon Williams of Poplarville, MS. Seven grandchildren, Andrew Bragg Williams (Brandi); Jeanne Williams Baxter (John); Patricia Williams Gilstrap (Mark); Christopher Scott Williams; April Faith Williams; Laura Williams Gray (Damian); and Frannie Thatch Parker (Wade). Twelve great-grandchildren, Henry and Gibson Williams; William and Rebecca Baxter; Audrey and Eli Gilstrap; Blaine, John Luke, Lainey, Reese, Sarah and Callie Parker; and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.
In addition to her parents, Mo is preceded in death by her husband, E.B. Williams, Jr.; her daughter, Emily Thatch; her son-in-law, John Thatch; her sister, Doris Schwarzauer; her brother-in-law, Lampton O. Williams and his wife, Suzy; and her brother-in law, R. Gordon Williams and his wife, Mary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church in Poplarville at the above address.
