Virginia Carol Long Kirke

Virginia “Carol” Long Kirke passed away in her home on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the age of 70. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg, MS. A reception to celebrate her life will follow the service.

Carol was born on August 14, 1944 in Hattiesburg, Ms. to Edith and John Long. Her gentle and caring ways and love for people afforded her a successful career as a registered nurse for over 30 years. She spent her retirement years in Poplarville, MS, surrounded by great friends and family. Her happiest days were spent in the garden and as a “Big Mama” to her three grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering for the different ministries at the church and Brother’s Keeper.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Judson Kirke and her beloved sister Mary Jeanette Massengale. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Kevin Kendrick of Spring, TX, son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Sandra Kirke, of Wiggins, MS, two granddaughters, Haley Kendrick (16) and Olivia Kirke (15) and one grandson, Jack Kendrick (13). She is also survived by three brothers, Buster Long of Valrico, FL, Richard Long of Jackson, AL, Mike Long of South Bend, IN.
