Aldo was born February 3, 1925, in Pordenone, San Giorgio Della Richinvelda, Italy. After a short childhood on the family farm, he worked and travelled all over Europe. Family in B.C. suggested that Aldo immigrate to Halifax, Canada in 1952. Dad worked in the coal mines in Michelle, Natal, Sparwood, and Kimberly until his friends in Port Alberni encouraged him to come work in the sawmill.
Arriving in Port Alberni in 1957 and being immediately hired at the Somass Sawmill, and worked as an oiler for 32 years until his retirement. Aldo met his first wife, Antinesca, through the social club of the Italian Canadian Society, and they married in July 1960. They had three children. The joys in his life were spending time in his garden, hunting or fishing, and making red wine in the basement.
Antinesca passed away in 1983, Aldo married his second wife Rowena in 1986 and together they enjoyed 22 years together with many travels across B.C., the western U.S. and back to Italy to visit Aldo's homestead in Pordenone.
Rowena passed away in 2008 and Aldo continued on his "new job" as he liked to call it, collecting recycling cans along Highway 4 from Tofino to Parksville. Many people stopped and chatted with Aldo and often left him cash under his windshield wipers to say thank you for picking up the recycling. He loved this. Aldo's "new job" kept him busy until declining health required surrendering his driver's license at the age of 96.
Aldo enjoyed his final two years being loved and cared for while living at Fir Park Village and our family gives thanks to all the amazing nurses, care aids, and staff for their loving care of Dad right past his 100th birthday.
Aldo was predeceased by his parents and six sisters in Italy; first wife Antinesca; and second wife Rowena.
He is survived by son, Livio Tedesco (Shannon); daughters Bianca Filipchuk (Rockey) and Sila Tedesco; grandchildren Shaun (Tracy), Alisha (Trevor), Nicohlas (Michelle), Kurtus, Jade, and Daley; and seven great grandchildren.
Aldo has requested no service, but asked that you drink a glass of red wine in memory of him.
