

Cummings; Patricia (Pat) It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend Pat Cummings. Pat passed away peacefully at her home in Port Alberni on February 22, 2011. Pat was born in Old Wives, Saskatchewan on March 1, 1924. After receiving her education in Emerson and Winnipeg, she continued to work and train as a dancer. She then met her dear husband Robert (Bob). They were married in Vancouver on July 6, 1946 then made their new home together in Port Alberni. Pat always was a person with great energy and creativity! She opened her own Dance School in Port Alberni in 1952. Pat was involved with so many aspects of the community. She belonged to the Sorptomist Club, a Gyrette, an original share holder in the Alberni Valley Curling Club, the Arts Council, Alberni Valley Theatrical Society, Director and Creator of Funshine (Port Alberni Theatrical Society), Teaching Tappercise at Echo for over 25 years! The studio that still runs today was specially built as a dance studio. The first one in Canada to have that distinction! Her dancers performed at hundreds of events in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island and on the Mainland. She was an artist, teacher and mentor to so many young men and women. She has touched the hearts of many people with her humour and sharing of her talent and ability to put on a really Good Show!
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Bob; her son James Cummings (Saskia); daughter Alison Cowan (Bill); grandsons Christopher Cowan (Vanessa) and James Cowan (Emily); cousin Dorothy Calvert as well as her many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Predeceased by her mother Elsie Krause; father C. Handley and sisters Hazel Drakett, June Wenz and Lucille Ivanitz.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 2,2011 at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 6th Avenue with Rev. George Pell officiating. Cremation will have taken place. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca.
Pat’s cremated remains will be laid to rest in Alberni Valley Memorial Gardens at a later date.
