Born in New Holland, Manitoba on April 23, 1928, it wasn’t long before Chester’s family went west to Port Alberni in the 1930s. They had lived first at McCoy Lake, then Great Central Lake. Chester became a Merchant Marine at age 15 and travelled the seas during the Second World War. He found his way back to Port Alberni and had no shortage of careers, from truck driving, being a longshoreman and even an undertaker before meeting the love of his life, Jean. Soon after, they had found a home on Sproat Lake in 1958 and raised their family. They would go on to stay there for 54 years until Jean passed away.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 293, 4680 Victoria Quay, Port Alberni, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chester’s memory may be made to the SPCA https://spca.bc.ca/donate/ or the Bread of Life Centre 3130 3rd Ave, Port Alberni, BC.
