Daryl Allen Werner was born on February 3, 1979, in Port Alberni, British Columbia, and passed away suddenly on October 10, 2026, while doing something he loved — exploring the back roads. A lifelong Port Alberni resident, Daryl built a life filled with adventure, hard work, family, friendships, and an enduring love for the outdoors. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, a few that might be best left untold, and countless memories that will be shared for years to come.
Daryl grew up in Cherry Creek, where he developed his lifelong love of the outdoors, vehicles, and adventure. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, mountain biking, water skiing, snow skiing, golfing, and karate. Known as “Taz” as a child because of his endless energy and curiosity, Daryl was always taking things apart, figuring out how they worked, and putting them back together again.
His fascination with cars, trucks, motorcycles, and dirt bikes continued throughout his life. He loved pushing limits and sharing adventures with friends, creating stories that became part of local lore. Beneath his mischievous spirit was a practical, hardworking man who took pride in earning what he wanted and doing things with his own hands.
Daryl worked for several local businesses before finding his home at Bowerman Construction. With his Class 1 licence, he enjoyed driving and took pride in doing his job well and efficiently. When he wasn’t working, he could usually be found repairing a vehicle, tackling yard work, hauling, building, or starting yet another project.
In 2007, Daryl met his partner, Jillian Ralston, together they built a life and welcomed their son, Ryder, in 2010. When Ryder was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2016, Daryl and Jill spent much of the following year in Vancouver, supporting him through treatment. Daryl’s love for his son never wavered, and he was especially proud when Ryder earned his motorcycle licence this past summer.
Some of our happiest times as a family were spent at the houseboat on Great Central Lake, on hunting and fishing trips, four-wheel-drive adventures, camping in the moho, exploring Island trails, cruising in the dune buggy or El Camino, and gathering with friends around a bonfire.
Daryl was predeceased by his grandparents, Leo (Louise) Werner and Ted (Christina) Smith; father, Allen Werner; aunts, Elaine Penner and Carolyn Dobie-Smith; uncle, Ed Smith; and his cousins, Daryk Penner, Tammy-Lynn Werner, and Sarah Werner.
He leaves behind his loving partner, Jillian, and their son, Ryder; his mother, Kathy, and stepfather, Bob; his sister, Candice (Matthew); his brother-in-law, Tony (Mel); his sister-in-law, Bridey (Tony); his stepmother, Trish; his step siblings, Jonathan (Sandi), Courtney (Darcy), Bob (Mikaela), Dave (Chelsa), Jill (Jeremy), Blake (Shawn), and Brooke (Chris); as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
Daryl lived life in his own gear, on his own terms, and with a full tank of adventure. He will be forever missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Daryl's Life will be held on Saturday, November 21st from 2 - 6pm at the Italian Hall in Port Alberni.
In lieu of flowers, please ensure you have a legal will.
