Denis was predeceased by parents; brothers Fernand, Gerald and sister Rita; Survived by wife of 63 years Marcy; children Richard (Joan), Lise (Colin) and Susanne; grandchildren Jennifer, Stephanie, Ross, Emily, Ian, Courtney and David; great grandchildren Benjamin, Noah, Isabelle and sister Cecile as well as extended family.
Denis was a quiet, private man but led an active life. He worked for MacMillian & Bloedel for 35 years as a hooktender, then the last 10 years as a truck driver.
He & Marcy had a greenhouse & grew a huge garden every year. They canned most of their vegetables from that garden for food supply for the winter months.
Dad’s faith was very important to him. He was a devoted Catholic and volunteered many hours to the Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He loved hockey & played for the Cameron Division team in his early years. Being of French heritage, he was a devoted Montreal Canadiens fan. He & Marcy were also big AV Bulldogs supporters for over 20 years. He prided on winning the frisbee toss numerous times.
As a family, we snow-skied at Mount Arrowsmith every winter and camped all summer until they bought a membership at Tall Timbers which they had for 43 years. All the family, especially the grandchildren had many joyous memories at the lake tubing, water skiing, & swimming.
Dad also enjoyed fishing at the Somass River. He smoked & canned his fish & gifted most of it to his family.
Dad’s greatest legacy he left us was his love for his family. We will always cherish the memories of gathering the family together for celebrations, dinners & games.
The family would like to thank Dr. Duplessis for the thorough care she provided for our dad in these later years of his life. The family would like to thank the home and community care teams that supported Dad and the family. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses & health care workers at West Coast General Hospital who looked after him during his many hospital stays in the past year.
According to Denis's a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Denis's memory may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. 4651 Burke Road, Port Alberni, BC.,V9Y 5P1
