(Dorothy) Carol Hastings

Carol was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank, and by her parents, Ralph and Dorothy McMillen. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Krista (Marc) Bodin, son Gavin (Candy) Hastings, brothers Grant (Sharron) McMillen and Ralph (Dale) McMillen, grandchildren Alexa and Caden Tremblay, and Alex Hastings, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carol was born in Fergus, Ontario, and raised in Port Credit. She attended Women’s College Hospital in Toronto and graduated with her nursing degree in 1965. Soon after, she moved to Vancouver and it was there that she met the love of her life, Frank. Frank and Carol were married in 1969, and after welcoming Krista and Gavin, family was their priority. They had endless family adventures that included summers at Protection Island, winters filled with skiing, and annual visits to Carol’s family in Ontario.

Their lives were also filled with great friendships and wonderful travels. They were blessed with 52 years together; in Carol’s words, ‘I believe I was married to the most wonderful man on earth’.

Carol had a lifelong passion for golf and treasured time spent on the course with friends and family. She achieved three hole-in-ones in her lifetime and had an amazing ability to hit the ball straight down the middle, even in recent years. She also enjoyed playing bridge and was part of a special bridge group who played together for decades. Carol was especially grateful for her lifelong friendships with Joan McKay and Anna Berry, and all of the good times they shared together.

Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her grandchildren, of whom she was endlessly proud. She loved taking them skiing and to the theatre, and watching their many sports. More recently, she enjoyed FaceTime calls and visits with Alexa, going to Bulldogs games to cheer for Caden, and watching Alex play hockey and baseball.

Carol truly loved people and experiences. She made connections with everyone she met. She was an amazing mom and grandma, and a true friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
