Lonardi; Dorothy Mabel – We are sad to announce our beloved Mom, Dorothy Lonardi (nee Cuthbertson) has passed away to be with her Lord Jesus. She will also be reunited with her husband of over 40 years Tony Lonardi, her sisters, brothers and parents who went before her. She left behind her brother Raymond and six children: Arlene, Lee (Syd), Roger (Marlene), Lloyd (Carol), Jeannie (Barry) and Carol (Bill); 16 grandchildren, including Arielle, Becky and Charlie who were especially close to her and will miss her terribly. She also has 16 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Mom was a great cook, and her roast chicken was melt in your mouth good! She was cooking at the Arlie Café when the tsunami hit Port in 1964, and didn’t see her bed for 2 days, feeding people. She lived in the house next to the Arlington, and didn’t know until she opened the café that a disaster had happened. The café was full of people. Mom also cooked in logging camps and clerked in the Health Food Store on 3rd Ave. for a long time.
She could sew anything you wanted to wear, including suits and crocheted and knitted treasures that we all have to remember her by.
She was born in rural Alberta on June 30, 1923 and grew up in the hard times of the depression. She started school when she was 5 as they were short one student to qualify for a teacher in the area. School was in a private house and all she did was colour pictures.
Mom was a very smart and humorous lady, and was always up to date on world affairs. She could express opinions on anything you wanted to hear. Her memory was like a steel trap and you had to be on your toes to challenge her on anything. She was usually right!
Mom always dressed nicely and usually wore a hat. Even when she was house-bound, she still dressed well and cooked real meals.
Mom suffered greatly with osteoarthritis and although we all will miss her, we are happy she is free of pain at last. Enjoy your wings mom!
A graveside service took place on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 1:00pm at Greenwood Cemetery. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca. If desired donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the SPCA, 4936 Broughton St., Port Alberni, V9Y 8R6.
Oh, won’t we be so happy in Heaven when we all get there
We’ll meet many friends and loved ones now won’t that be joy beyond compare
There will be no heartaches, no sorrow not any burdens to bear
We’ll sing to the King, we’ll make hallelujahs ring
When we all get there
