

Edith was born on April 15, 1932 in Dubeninken/Kreis Goldap, East Germany. She immigrated to Canada in October, 1953 to marry her husband, Heinrich Bratka. They settled in Port Alberni, where they build their life together and had a family. Edith was a custodian in the School District and was known for her diligence and spectacular work ethic. She took pride in being there for her family and gave so much of herself to each one of them, always making sure each and everyone was happy, cared for and, of course, well fed.
Edith will be deeply missed by her daughter Marilyn (Ken) Jones; four grandchildren, Pamela (Bill) Stanton, Alanna (Nathan) Laity, Steven (Lanie) Jones, Ashley Jones (Cole); 10 great grandchildren, Aydin, Koen, Rehanna, Josiah, Abigayle, Mathias, Grace, Gunnar, Linden and Everett, Sister Waltraut Koch, Brother Gerhard Gerber, Brother-in-Law Herbert Konetzka, Sister-in-Law Lisa Konetzka and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Heinrich Bratka; daughter, Renate Frank; brother, Gunther Schinkewitz, brother Werner Gerber and other relatives. The family would like to extend deep gratitude to the dedicated staff at Echo Village.
A Funeral Service will be held on August 4, @ 1:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 4408 Redford Street, Port Alberni, BC with Rev. Clair Denninger officiating. Interment to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. Following Interment, a reception will take place back at Grace Lutheran Church.
