Eric is survived by his two sons, David of Vernon, BC and Michael of Port Alberni, BC; Linda Porttila; and his sister Carrie Oliver (Brad) of Sudbury, ON. He was the beloved son of Arvo and Bernadette Porttila (predeceased).
Eric was born in Sudbury, Ontario on August 20, 1952. He moved west, settling in Port Alberni in 1976, where he worked in the logging industry until he retired. Eric had a lifelong passion for fishing. He always enjoyed returning to Sudbury to visit with old friends and family members. He was also a longtime member of the Notre Dame Parish.
Thank you to Dr. Fraser and all of the homecare nurses and nurses at WCGH for the wonderful care they provided to Eric.
At Eric’s request, there will be no service or visitation. Donations can be made in Eric’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
