Fred William Hanson

It’s never the right time to say goodbye.

We will miss you, Dad, and here is why.

You taught us so much - to show no fear,

To always have fun and face the day with cheer.

You were always so able, so fast and so strong.

In your little girls eyes, you could do no wrong.

You would always listen, and you never pried.

You were the arms around us when we cried.

You worked so hard and those strong working hands.

Led us through life and helped us understand.

That life can be hard, and tough, and sad,

But through it all we had our Dad.

And because of you we understood,

That life was actually pretty good.

We believe in you, and will follow your path,

And when things go wrong we’ll look back and laugh.

So rest in peace, but we’re letting you know,

That you were and will forever, be our superhero.

So yes, today we’re full of sorrow,

But we will smile a little more with each tomorrow.

So please, Dad go, be at rest.

And know to us you were always the best!

Hanson, Fred passed away unexpectedly in Port Alberni on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the age of 89

years. He was predeceased by his brother Cliff and his sisters Margaret and Clara.

Fred is survived by children Glenda (Harvey), Shelley (Jack) and Gaylene; grandchildren Brook,

Dustin, Tureema, Cherece, Brandi, Colten; great grandchildren Brayden, Brooklyn, Kole, Kenya,

Sienna, Declan, Raife, Gabriella and Sebastian; sister Evelyn as well as many nieces, nephews,

extended family and friends.

Born in Aylsham Saskatchewan, Fred left home at the early age of 14, eventually making his way to

BC in the early 50’s, and then, with his family, moving on to Port Alberni in the 70’s. As a Faller for

over 45 years, Fred a was very well respected employee of MacMillan Bloedel. Fred took his work

very seriously until retiring at the age of 65. While raising children, Fred spent summers at his cabin

on Galliano Island, where he shared his passion of sport fishing alongside his wife, Marliyn and

their three young daughters. After moving to Port Alberni, he continued fishing down the Alberni

Canal to Bamfield area. Fred, a very strong athlete in every sport he attempted, participated at the

Curling and Lawn Bowling Clubs up to and including his 89th Birthday. Living a passionate life,

Fred loved his work and the outdoors but most importantly, his family and friends. With a strong

presence and a big personality, Fred will certainly be missed by many.
