It is with great sadness that we announce that Harbans Kaur Bains passed away peacefully, surrounded by her immediate family on March 21, 2024, at age 71. Harbans is survived by her three daughters Janet Johal and her Husband Nirmal Johal (Victoria), Tracy Saran (Lower Mainland), and Trina Kandola (Lower Mainland), and her five grandchildren Nicholas Johal, Austin Johal, Simran Saran, Taige Saran & Nira Johal.
If you had the pleasure of meeting Harbans or as some called her Bansi, although she was very small her heart was huge, she was known as one of the kindest, sweetest, strong willed, hard working, and the most loving human being you would have come across. She loved all her kids and grandchildren just as much as she devoted herself to Seva (selfless service) in the Sikh Community/ Temple and committing to her prayers.
Harbans was born March 13th, 1953, in Punjab, India born to Lal Singh Sall, and Nasib Kaur Sall, then moving to Canada at the age of nineteen to be wed to her predeceased husband Jagir Singh Bains in 1972 at the Ross Street Gurdwara in Vancouver. They both lived in Tahsis in the logging camp for a short while before moving to Campbell River, then later to Port Alberni in 1980.
In loving memory of Harbans Bains, her name will be added along side her pre-deceased husbands name on a picnic table at Roger Creek Park found at 4720 Pemberton Rd, Port Alberni. The park was a memorable place Harbans, and her husband enjoyed taking their grandchildren when they visited.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harbans Bains memory to The Canadian Liver Foundation. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the caregivers, volunteers, nurses, and doctors at Island Health in Port Alberni and at Nanaimo Regional Hospital.
A funeral service for Harbans will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Chapel of Memories, 4005 - 6th Ave, Port Alberni, British Columbia.
