Anne Gray, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 91.
Anne lived a life filled with compassion, service, and love. A proud Registered Nurse, she was a dedicated caregiver who found great fulfillment in helping others. She was one of the earliest advocates for hospice care and worked with others to start the hospice program in Port Alberni. It was fitting that she spent her final days in Ty Watson house, surrounded by the very care she helped to establish.
A lover of the water from a young age, Anne was an avid swimmer and spent much of her life sharing her passion with others. She taught swimming lessons to children and supported her three sons throughout their swimming club days and competitions. Her fondest memories were spent at her beloved cabin on Sproat Lake, where she continued to swim, laugh, and make memories with family well into her 91st year.
Anne’s greatest joy was her family. She was a constant presence in the lives of her three sons, their partners, her eight grandchildren, and her ten great-grandchildren. Whether playing a spirited game of crib, baking her famous pies and fresh buns, or simply enjoying a quiet moment together, Anne’s love for her family knew no bounds.
Anne was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ron Gray, and her parents, John and Jean Williamson. She leaves behind her brother, Rick Williamson (Linda); her sons, Jack (Val), Richard (Rosanne), and Gordon (Cathy); her grandchildren, Kyle (Kenna), Lisa (Jamie), Jennifer (Ryan), Taryn (Erik), Lynsey (Cole), Taylor (Ewan), Jynaya (Mike), Sarah; and her great-grandchildren, Avery, Summer, Logan, Maia, Reid, Paige, Annelise, Luka, Cohen, and Kieran.
Anne will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kind spirit, infectious smile, and legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.
A memorial service to celebrate Anne’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4th at 2:00pm at United Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the United Church on Church Street, or to the Ty Watson House, an organization Anne held close to her heart.
