He is predeceased by his brother-in-law Lyn Martin, his sister Gloria Martin, his brother-in-law Stan Wiseman April 2022, his nephew Chad Wiseman January 2023, and his son-in-law Brian Sears January 9th 2024.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan of 66 years, his son Darrell (Coreen), his daughter Brenda Sears, and his son Craig (Rhonda). Also, his Grandchildren, Michelle (Troy), Joseph (Lisa), Jeanette, Tad, Beverley (Gordon), Lee, Brianne (Ty) and Carson. He was so proud of them. His nine Great Grandchildren Logan, Isabelle, Karilyn, Marissa, Duncan, Trinity, Brooklyn, Madison, and Berland were the light of his world, and he was thrilled to know there was another one on the way. He also had one brother-in-law, Les Wiseman (Judith) nieces, Roxanne (Noel), Terry (Geoff) and nephew Larry (Shiela) 6 Great nieces and nephews, and 8 Great Great nieces and nephews.
In his earlier years, he coached Church League Girls Softball, and Little League Baseball. He was a scout leader for several years. He was an ardent fisherman, and gave Joan a rod and reel for her 17th Birthday. They spent many happy hours down the canal, and at the local lakes. After he fell from the roof, the choppy waves on the canal got too hard on his back, and he turned to rockhounding. He was in the Alberni Valley Rock and Gem Club for over 40 years, and did amazing lapidary work. Their holidays were spent in several States as well as Canada, out on the hills or deserts with the rocks and the rattlesnakes. Their home was turned into a mini-museum. He loved sports and played floor curling with the Sunshine Club for over 20 years.
Herb had an amazing sense of humour, and always had a fast come-back for every comment. He would always support Joan in any crazy tangent she went off on, whether it was for Rock and Gem, or for the Church. He'd get in the car and say, "Which Dollar store today?"
Herb was a wonderful man, a loving supportive Husband, a loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Uncle. He will be sorely missed. We ALL love you Herb!
Joan wants to send her heartfelt thanks to Dr. Woodley, Dr. Johnson, and the whole Palliative Care team, especially Coleen and Christie who never rushed her, listened to her questions AND her silly stories, and made the whole situation easier.
Thanks also to Pastor David Zvonar, and her amazing Church family, who continually kept them in their prayers.
A Tea to celebrate Herb's life will be held on March 9th at 1 o'clock in the lower auditorium of Southside Church of the Nazarene 4190 Victoria Drive.
