Survived by loving husband Dave; grand daughter Summer Siravo; and grandchildren Nick and Cali.
Iris was a war bride who came to Canada after marrying her late husband George Burtnick. The couple owned and operated the Quick Freeze Locker company until its demise with the ever growing affordability of home freezers. She then went to school and became an LPN, working for 17 years at the old West Coast General Hospital before retiring in 1984. After the Tsunami, she moved to the Lake “…only for 5 years….”. 26 years later, she moved back into town to be closer to people and to health care in order to deal with the health issues she had started to experience in 1982. Intelligent, a good sense of humour and loved being around people are the words that best describe Iris to those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
According to Iris’ wishes, no formal service will be held. Chapel of Memories entrusted with arrangements.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff of both West Coast General Hospital and Westhaven, for the level of care given to Iris during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Iris’ memory to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation, 3949 Port Alberni Hwy, V9Y 4S1.
