Jannet Robertson McMeekin

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother in Port Alberni on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the age of 78 years.

Predeceased by her husband, Alex; grandson Christopher, and 2 brothers, Donald and Jim Robertson. Jannet is survived by children, Donna (Gary), Colin (Laurie), and Kenneth; daughters-in-law, Laurie and Louisa; grandchildren, Dané, Sabrina, Megan, Katie, Colby, Ian, Jessie and Graeme; sister, Annie (Harry); sisters-in-law, Pat and Jean, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Scotland, Jannet immigrated to Canada in her early 20’s, married Alex and moved to the Alberni Valley soon afterwards. Although their stay was “…only for 6 months..” Jannet fell in love with the Valley and vowed to never leave. She worked as a secretary, 29 years of which were at Alberni Elementary School. She had a wonderful memory for all the names and faces of those she knew throughout her working years. An active and social person, Jannet loved curling and in later years continued to love watching the game. She also played bridge on a regular basis. An avid and talented knitter, she was able to hold a conversation without dropping a stitch and her grandchildren were well looked after when it came to sweaters. The legacy will continue as she has placed with care numerous knitted outfits for her great-grandchildren. Jannet's greatest joy in life was her family, especially her love and devotion for her grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Chapel of Memories, 4005 – 6th Ave, with Rev Minnie Hornage officiating. A Tea will follow at the Alberni Golf Club, 6449 Cherry Creek Road. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
