He is survived by Regina, his loving wife of 55 years, his son Martin Cameron, his daughter Tracy Cameron (Richard) and his grandchildren, Gage Cameron, Cortney Cameron, Ender Sawel and Arkady Sawel, his brother Al Cameron and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorne was born on August 6, 1940 in Port Alberni where he grew up, went to school, married and raised his family. He worked in the logging industry as a faller, a job he loved until his final retirement in 2008.
Lorne adored his family and was a loving husband and father and in later years the best Grampy to his grandchildren. They were of the utmost importance in his life and he treasured every moment he could spend with them.
He was a great outdoorsman and loved living in the country, exploring nature and the woods around him; he passed that love on to his children, teaching them a respect for nature and a love of all the creatures surrounding his home. He was hardworking and respectful, teaching both his children and grandchildren to respect the same values he had.
He was very generous and caring towards a huge circle of family and friends and never missed an opportunity to stand and chat. It was often said he knew everyone in Port Alberni and a shopping trip with him to the mall could take hours. He loved playing games with his kids and grandkids and according to his daughter; he was annoyingly good at Trivial Pursuit, so everyone wanted to be his partner.
Lorne found his religion in nature and therefore at his request, his remains will be cremated and scattered in the places he loved. A small gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be arranged at a later date when travel is permitted.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marc Puts, Dr. Steve Kulla, Nanaimo Cancer Clinic, Dr. Jason Hart, Victoria Cancer Clinic Hospital for all of their support and care over the last years. They would also like to thank all of the nurses and staff at West Coast General Hospital for going out of their way to offer support to his family and to provide care for Lorne during his last few days.
No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Cancer Society to further multiple myeloma studies.
