Maria Josephina Panziera Bettiol

Predeceased by husband Sergio, son Larry, brother Albino, and sister Ida.

Maria is survived by daughter Linda (Pat) Dolan; grandchildren, Sean (Nikki), Kyle (Sarah), and Meaghan (Greg); great grandchild Henry; sister Cesare in Italy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.

Maria came to Port Alberni in 1951 to marry Sergio who had arrived from Italy the previous year. She quickly assimilated to Canadian culture and found a wide circle of friends in her new country through Notre Dame Church and the CWL, and the Italian Society in the Valley. She was a good cook, liked to play Bocce and Lawn Bowling and was forever socializing and entertaining in true Italian fashion. Amongst the grandchildren, their favourites were Nonna’s lasagna and fresh bread. She loved her grandchildren and was thrilled with the birth of Henry.

Viewing will be held 6:00 – 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2011with prayer following at 7:00pm at the Chapel of Memories, 4005 – 6th Ave. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30am, Thursday, July 14, 2011 from the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church with Father Stephen Payne officiating.
